BTS’ RM Is Bringing His Personal Art Collection to SFMOMA

Summary

RM of BTS will be showcasing pieces from his private art collection at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA). The exhibit, titled ‘Between You and Me,’ will feature Korean modern and contemporary art alongside related works already owned by the museum. It opens on October 3, 2026.

BTS leader RM is sharing his personal art collection with the public for the first time. The exhibition, titled RM x SFMOMA: Between You and Me, will be on display at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art this fall, moving his passion for art from a private space to a major museum.

This exhibition is the first museum show featuring the art collection of RM, also known as Kim Namjoon. RM worked with curators from SFMOMA, América Castillo and Hyoeun Kim, to assemble the show, which includes around 200 pieces from his personal collection and the museum’s own holdings. Notably, many of the Korean artworks on display have never been shown to the public in the U.S. before.

RM is famous as the leader, rapper, and songwriter of BTS, but he’s also become a strong supporter of Korean art. His collection shows a thoughtful and personal taste, linking classic Korean artists with both current Korean and international work.

The exhibition will feature paintings by Korean artists Yun Hyong-keun, Park Rehyun, Kwon Okyon, Kim Yun Shin, To Sangbong, and Chang Ucchin, all from RM’s collection. These will be shown with pieces from SFMOMA’s collection by artists like Kim Whanki, Mark Rothko, Agnes Martin, Henri Matisse, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Paul Klee.

Instead of focusing on who owned these artworks, the “Between You and Me” exhibit highlights the special bond people form with art itself. It will showcase how ideas about art have evolved across different times and places—connecting Korea and the United States, Eastern and Western cultures, and individual experiences to broader human themes.

RM explained he didn’t want to tell people how to interpret the exhibition, but hoped it would serve as a meaningful connection for those who experience it. He described it as a ‘small but sturdy bridge’ for visitors.

The exhibition RM x SFMOMA: Between You and Me will be shown only at SFMOMA from October 3, 2026, to February 7, 2027. Members can purchase tickets starting August 4, and tickets will be available to the public on August 11.
