I’m so excited! Brooks Brothers Japan and New Era are teaming up to release a really cool 9FORTY Unstructured cap. You’ll be able to snag one starting June 12, 2026, but here’s the catch – it’s going to be exclusive to Urban Research, Journal Standard Relume, and United Arrows Green Label Relaxing stores across Japan, and their websites too.

This cap’s defining feature is its soft front panel. Unlike most baseball caps with a stiff insert, this 9FORTY Unstructured design offers a more comfortable, relaxed fit that naturally molds to the head. Historically, classic American headwear has prioritized a comfortable, worn-in feel over a perfectly structured look. This unstructured panel achieves that classic, lived-in style reminiscent of traditional Ivy League sportswear, something a rigid cap never could. An adjustable strap at the back ensures a comfortable fit for a variety of head sizes and genders, making it widely accessible without affecting the cap’s overall shape.

As a fan, I really appreciate how thoughtfully the embroidery is done on this cap. They didn’t just slap logos everywhere! The iconic Brooks Brothers Golden Fleece – that beautiful golden lamb – is front and center, and it’s definitely the star. Then, they subtly added the Brooks Brothers name in script on the right side, and the New Era flag on the left. It’s a really balanced look – each logo gets its space without overwhelming the others. What I especially like is that the front stays clean and focused on that amazing Golden Fleece symbol. For a collab between two brands known for their logos, it’s surprisingly restrained and classy.

The collection features six colors, all inspired by classic American traditional style – specifically the navy, maroon, gray, and green shades common in Ivy League fashion since the 1950s. Each color was intentionally faded to look worn-in, which is important in this style, as a lived-in look is valued more than a brand-new appearance. Three of the colors are available at all three stores, as well as online at Brooks Brothers and New Era. The other three colors are exclusive to specific retailers: Maroon is only at Urban Research, Gray at Journal Standard Relume, and Green at United Arrows Green Label Relaxing. Each store chose its preferred color from the overall selection.

The collaboration between Brooks Brothers and New Era, featuring the 9FORTY Unstructured cap, will be available starting June 12th at Urban Research, Journal Standard Relume, and United Arrows Green Label Relaxing locations across the country, as well as on their websites.
