British “edge-of-your-seat” thriller confirms exciting cast news with Rivals and Derry Girls stars

A popular thriller series from Belgium is being remade for Paramount+ with a new English-language version. The cast includes Minnie Driver, known for Emily in Paris, Louisa Harland from Derry Girls, and Luke Pasqualino of Rivals.

The new eight-part drama, currently titled The Day (a direct translation of the original Belgian series De Dag), takes place over the course of a single, dramatic day. It begins when police discover a bank robbery in progress, leading to a standoff as the robbers barricade themselves inside.

Naomi Driver plays Sylvia ‘Vox’ Voxley, a hostage negotiator, in the new film. She attempts to communicate with the robbers and rescue the people trapped inside. Harland and Pasqualino also appear in the movie, but their roles haven’t been revealed yet.

As the suspense builds to a climax, the story flashes back, showing the robbery from multiple viewpoints and revealing a larger, more complex puzzle.

Described as a fast-paced and thrilling ride by Variety, The Day leads to a dramatic conclusion where everything comes together.

What to Read Next

Created by Ben Harris and Jesse O’Mahoney, The Day is a remake of the 2018 Belgian series De Dag, which was originally created by Jonas Geirnaert and Julie Mahieu. The new version is currently being filmed and will be available to stream on Paramount+ in the UK and Ireland sometime in the future.

Pasqualino will be returning as Bas Baddingham in the second season of Rivals, which arrives on Disney+ in May. The popular series is based on Jilly Cooper’s 1988 novel and tells the story of a fierce competition between independent television stations.

The series Rivals is set in the made-up county of Rutshire and features David Tennant as Tony, Lord Baddingham. He’s the half-brother of Bas and works as the managing director at Corinium Television.

Alex Hassell plays the role of Conservative MP Rupert Campbell-Black. Aidan Turner and Nafessa Williams star as Declan O’Hara, a former BBC journalist, and Cameron Cook, an American producer. Both are hired by Tony to help revitalize Corinium.

The new episode will debut on May 15th, and the cast has been remembering Cooper, who sadly passed away last October.

Danny Dyer, who portrays Freddie Jones on the show, spoke about Cooper, saying she’s become an integral part of the series and her absence is keenly felt, especially knowing she won’t be able to experience the new season (according to Rolling Stone UK).

Okay, so I’m super excited – Season 2 of Rivals is hitting Disney+ in the UK on May 15th! They’re dropping the first three episodes all at once, and then they’ll release the rest of the season later this year. Can’t wait!
