This guide will help you master Barley in Brawl Stars. We’ll cover his attacks, stats, and abilities to build the most effective strategy. Barley is usually one of the first throwing characters players unlock, along with Dynamike. Let’s dive right in and take a closer look at Barley!
Brawl Stars Barley Guide – How To Unlock
To unlock Barley in Brawl Stars, players can:
- Unlock him on Trophy Road when you earn 650 trophies
- Unlock him from a Mega Box (1% chance)
You’ll probably get Barley by progressing on the Trophy Road, but there’s a small chance you could unlock him early with a Mega Box. Generally, though, he’s not too difficult to unlock.
Brawl Stars Barley Guide – Attacks & Stats Per Level
Barley’s primary attack, called Undiluted, is a long-range attack where he throws a bottle. When the bottle hits the ground, it shatters, creating a temporary puddle. This puddle deals damage when it lands, and continues to damage enemies who remain inside it.
Barley’s Last Call ability lets him throw five bottles over a large area, creating a big puddle. This puddle deals the same amount of damage as his regular attack and has the same effects in battle. Think of it as a wider, more spread-out version of his normal attack, but it can be interrupted if he’s knocked back, pulled, pushed, or stunned.
Here are Barley’s current stats (as of May 2026). Please keep in mind that these numbers are subject to change and may not be completely up-to-date.
| POWER LEVEL | Health | Main Attack Damage Per Second | Super Damage Per Second |
| 1 | 2700 | 800 | 800 |
| 2 | 2920 | 880 | 880 |

| 6 | 4050 | 1200 | 1200 |
| 7 | 4320 | 1280 | 1280 |
| 8 | 4590 | 1360 | 1360 |
| 9 | 4860 | 1440 | 1440 |
| 10 | 5130 | 1520 | 1520 |
| 11 | 5400 | 1600 | 1600 |
Brawl Stars Barley Guide – Which Star Powers & Gadgets are the best?
Overall, Barley has two gadgets:
- Sticky Syrup Mixer – “Barley drops a sticky concoction that leaves a puddle, slowing down all enemies that make contact with it.”
- Herbal Tonic – “Barley throws a healing potion at nearby allies that creates an area that heals health every second for a brief period.”
Additionally, Barley has two Star Powers:
- Medical Use – “Barley regains some health from each attack.”
- Extra Noxious – “Adds extra damage per second to Barley’s attack.”
Furthermore, Barley can use the following gears in battle:
- Speed
- Vision
- Health
- Shield
- Damage
- Gadget Cooldown
Barley’s Hypercharge, called Bottled-Up Rage, changes his Super so he throws three bottles instead of one. This covers a larger area, and it also clears out any bushes nearby.
Brawl Stars Barley Guide – Recommended Star Power, Gadget, & Gear Setup
We highly recommend the Sticky Syrup Mixer for Gadgets. It’s especially useful if you’re not coordinating closely with your team. This is Barley’s only way to slow down opponents, which significantly improves his survivability. Plus, he can slow enemies even through walls, giving you an advantage in attacks.
Barley’s Star Powers work best depending on the game mode. If you’re trying to control an area like the Hot Zone, Medical Use can help him survive. However, if you’re focused on eliminating opponents in a mode like Bounty, Extra Noxious might be more effective. Experiment with both Star Powers in different modes to find what suits your playstyle best.
Okay, so as a Barley main, here’s what I’ve found works best. Definitely get the Gadget Cooldown for your Sticky Syrup Mixer – it recharges so much faster and makes a huge difference! If you’re on maps with tons of bushes, the Speed Gear is a lifesaver because it helps Barley get around so much quicker. But if the map isn’t super bushy, I usually go with either a Damage or Shield Gear to help me survive a bit longer.
Brawl Stars – Which Modes Should You Use Barley In (And Which Modes You Shouldn’t)
Hot Zone
Okay, so as a Barley main, let me tell you why he’s so good in Hot Zone! His attacks just reach everywhere, which is perfect for stopping enemies from rushing in. The more I attack, the faster my Super charges, which is awesome. Plus, Sticky Syrup Mixer is a lifesaver – it keeps those pesky attackers at bay. And the best part? I can heal myself with Medical Use while I’m dealing damage. It’s a really effective combo!
Heist
Barley is a strong choice for Heist mode, particularly when he’s positioned with cover. His attack damages both the safe and any enemies or spawn points nearby. If enemies get too close, he can use Super Sonic Missiles (SSM) to slow them down while continuing his assault. If you’re focused on maximizing damage and don’t need healing, consider equipping Extra Noxious.
Brawl Ball
Barley excels at controlling the map in Brawl Ball, making him a strong defender. His Super ability lets him destroy bushes, eliminating places where opponents can hide. When attacking, use Split Shot to slow down enemies trying to score, and choose Medical Use or Extra Noxious to either survive longer or inflict more damage.
Brawl Stars Barley Guide – What Mode(s) Should I NOT Use Barley In?
Gem Grab
Barley’s powerful attacks are good for managing where gems appear, but his slow firing rate and tendency to target different enemies might make it hard for him to consistently control the gem area. He’s also vulnerable to fast-moving attackers like Mortis, Edgar, and Tara, who can quickly defeat him. Combined with his low health, this makes him a less effective choice for Gem Grab.
Bounty/Knockout/Wipeout
Barley’s primary attack has good range, but it’s relatively slow, making it difficult to hit opponents. This is especially true against other long-range fighters who can simply stay out of its reach. Additionally, Barley only does bonus damage if enemies remain within the puddles created by his attack, which can be unreliable for consistently high damage output.
Overall, that wraps up our Brawl Stars Barley Guide!
