While both films were hits, Bob Odenkirk is still waiting for an answer for Nobody 3.
Bob Odenkirk not only starred in, but also helped create, the action-comedy series from Derek Kolstad, the creator of John Wick. He plays Hutch Mansell, a seemingly ordinary family man with a hidden past as a trained government assassin, which is revealed when he clashes with dangerous criminals. After a four-year break, the series returned in mid-2025 with Nobody 2, which received generally positive reviews and did well at the box office.
While on the red carpet at the Saturn Awards, Bob Odenkirk spoke with ScreenRant’s Ash Crossan about the possibility of more Nobody movies. He confirmed he has ideas for two sequels, but isn’t sure if they’ll happen, as he’s waiting to hear back from Universal Pictures. Odenkirk stated he’s willing to do whatever the studio wants to make another film and hinted at some of his concepts for a follow-up.
People really enjoyed ‘Nobody 2,’ and that’s what mattered most. Timo Tjahjanto definitely made it a very action-packed and violent film – it had a lot of blood! I was aiming for something in the style of Jackie Chan, which led to the fun duck boat fight sequence. I often wondered how far we could push the violence – we could have made it incredibly dark and brutal. But then I considered whether that would alienate fans who were enjoying the first ‘Nobody’ film and the broader appeal of the series.
While Connie Nielsen, Christopher Lloyd, and RZA reprise their roles, Nobody 2 didn’t quite reach the same surprise success as the first Nobody film. However, it still received mostly positive reviews, earning a ‘Certified Fresh’ rating of 76% on Rotten Tomatoes – close to the original film’s 83%.
The sequel to the action film didn’t perform as strongly in theaters, earning a little over $43 million with a production cost of $27 million. Although it wasn’t a huge drop from the first Nobody‘s $57.5 million earnings, the higher budget—combined with typical marketing and distribution costs—means it didn’t make enough to break even or achieve the same level of profit as the original.
Despite the film barely earning back its production costs, and the franchise now exceeding $100 million in total earnings, a third Nobody movie is still possible. Universal Pictures appears eager to continue working with 87North Productions, a relationship that began four years ago with Violent Night, and will continue with its sequel releasing this December. They currently have five other projects underway, including the planned Gears of War movie adaptation.
The ending of Nobody 2 hints at a possible third movie. The biggest unresolved issue is Hutch’s debt to The Barber (Colin Salmon) stemming from the money he destroyed from the Russian mob’s fund. Although The Barber temporarily distanced himself from Hutch during the conflict with Sharon Stone’s character, that debt is significant enough to potentially bring Hutch back into action.
A third Nobody movie could expand on the story by diving deeper into the history between Hutch and Becca. The previous film revealed they met after a violent mission, and also hinted at Becca possessing skills of her own. A sequel could explore this further, perhaps even showing Becca changing careers to work alongside Hutch on future operations.
While plans aren’t official, Bob Odenkirk has suggested a darker tone for a potential Nobody 3, which is a shift from his earlier ideas for sequels. He previously liked the family aspect of the films and wanted to continue it. The next movie, slated for 2025, will show Hutch struggling to separate his violent past from his family life, and a third film could explore that conflict escalating into something much more serious for the Mansells.
