Well, well, well, it seems like BNB Chain’s official X account, with nearly four million followers, has had a little “security hiccup.” On Wednesday, hackers took control of the account and spread phishing links like confetti at a party. 🍾🎉
The ever-dashing Binance founder, Changpeng “CZ” Zhao, confirmed the breach and warned his adoring followers to avoid the malicious links that were all too eager to gobble up their cryptocurrency wallets. “The hacker posted a bunch of links to phishing websites that ask for Wallet Connect. DO NOT connect your wallet,” CZ tweeted with all the grace and elegance of a gentleman caught in a rather sticky situation. 🙄
Fear not, though! The valiant BNB Chain security teams have already notified X (formerly known as Twitter) and are currently working on suspending the account and restoring access. Zhao added that takedown requests for the phishing sites had already been submitted-because nothing says “we’ve got this” like a well-timed takedown request. 🕴️
One of the BNB Chain team members told CryptoMoon that their team was investigating the situation and would share more information soon. Ah, the mysteries of the crypto world-always just a tweet away. 🕵️♂️
Phishing Links in Disguise – A Crafty Little Trick
In an especially cheeky twist, SlowMist’s Chief Information Security Officer, who goes by the mysterious handle of 23pds, revealed that the hackers had swapped a single letter in the phishing domain to make it look like the real deal. Oh, the audacity! 🙄
“BNB Chain’s English official X account has been hacked! The phishing website changed the letter i into l,” 23pds tweeted, playing the role of the hero in this drama. Apparently, the attackers belong to the notorious Inferno phishing group. Sounds like something straight out of a spy thriller, doesn’t it? 🕶️
The Inferno Drainer, a crypto wallet-draining software (sounds ominous, doesn’t it?), allows its affiliates to launch phishing sites designed to look like legit crypto interfaces. It’s like going to a masquerade ball and being handed a fake invitation, except the only thing they’re draining is your wallet. 💸
This whole fiasco has highlighted just how tricky it is to protect official crypto accounts from malicious takeovers. The SlowMist CISO, ever the sharp-eyed critic, remarked, “The BNB Chain team’s security awareness shouldn’t be this poor.” Ouch, but also, *fair point*. 🔥
CZ’s Big Warning – Check Your Domains, People!
In his ever-dramatic X post, CZ gave a sage piece of advice: “Always check the domains very carefully, even from official X handles. Stay SAFU!” Oh, the pearls of wisdom, delivered with such flair! 👏
At the time of writing, the phishing posts have mysteriously disappeared from the timeline. But did anyone fall for it? Did anyone connect their wallets or lose funds? The mystery continues, dear reader. Stay tuned. ⏳
