The new drama 500 Miles, starring Bill Nighy, will be released in the UK soon. It will premiere in Ireland on May 15th, and then arrive in British cinemas on June 26th.
The new movie is based on Mark Lowery’s well-loved 2018 novel, Charlie and Me: 421 Miles From Home, and is being described as an inspiring road trip story that celebrates life and the strength of people.
The story centers on two brothers who run away from home as their family falls apart. Their decision forces the rest of their family to confront old issues and try to reconnect after years of being distant.
According to the story’s description, Finn and his energetic younger brother, Charlie, run away from their arguing parents and begin a huge journey. They travel across land and sea, all the way from Yorkshire to the rugged western coast of Ireland.
The boys are heading to Dingle, County Kerry, to visit their grandfather, whom their parents haven’t spoken to in over a year. A kind street performer named Cáit is helping them on their journey.

Roman Griffin Davis and Dexter Sol Ansell play the roles of Finn and Charlie. Clare Dunne and Michael Socha are featured as their arguing parents. Bill Nighy stars as the boys’ grandfather, John, and Maisie Williams plays Cáit, a friendly woman they meet.
The film 500 Miles was directed by Morgan Matthews, who has won four BAFTA awards, and written by Malcolm Campbell. It first premiered at the Dublin International Film Festival in February and was praised as a memorable film with a fantastic cast.

I read a review in Film Ireland that really got me hyped – they said the movie was seriously powerful and stuck with them. They especially loved Bill Nighy’s performance; they described it as really moving and genuine, portraying a guy who’s lost it all and feels like he has nothing to look forward to. It sounds like it’s going to be a real emotional ride.
I was really hooked by how quickly the story moved! The editing was fantastic – they used flashbacks perfectly, just enough to really show you how much things had changed for these characters and how different their lives used to be. It was heartbreaking to see how far they’d fallen, and the flashbacks helped me understand that loss so much better.
500 Miles will be released in cinemas on 15 May in Ireland, and on 26 June in the UK.
