Nadia Almada, known from the show Big Brother, recently had a facelift and was seen showing it off while enjoying a beach day in Turkey on Thursday.
The 49-year-old reality TV star first became famous in 2004 when she won Big Brother UK. Now, twenty years later, she looks quite different, having had cosmetic surgery and weight-loss surgery.
Nadia, the first transgender contestant on the show, was still recovering from a recent facelift and had some bandaging and bruising.
Despite everything, she continued to sunbathe, working on her tan in a small, floral bikini.
She looked fantastic in her new two-piece, highlighting her impressive weight loss of six stone after undergoing gastric sleeve surgery last year.
Nadia completed her beach look by scraping her blonde locks in a bun beneath a black baseball cap.
Last year, Nadia strongly objected to a recent Supreme Court decision, stating she would prefer to forgo treatment rather than risk being placed in a male ward, which she described as frightening.
She went on television to talk about the Supreme Court’s recent ruling that a person’s sex – determined at birth – defines whether they are a woman. This was a significant decision.
Honestly, it’s been a really unsettling time. The idea that someone could invalidate my identity as a woman simply based on my sex… it’s truly frightening. It makes you question everything, and it’s something I’m definitely grappling with right now.
For many of us in this generation, having faced discrimination in the past and now seeing our rights threatened, it feels deeply dehumanizing.
‘It’s terrifying. I don’t even know what else to say.’
She explained that it upset her to have her identity doubted, and she was particularly bothered by the focus on sex and gender rather than who she is as a person.
The recent Supreme Court decision frames things in strictly male or female terms, leaving out or failing to acknowledge people who identify as non-binary or intersex. This raises the question of whether sex is truly binary, and many believe it isn’t.
I primarily see myself as a woman, and while people often identify me as transgender, that feels secondary to my core identity. It’s about how I live my life and who I am at heart.
The way I live and interact with the world is very personal to me. It’s deeply concerning if people try to define me as something other than a woman based on assigned sex at birth rather than my lived experience and identity.
Honestly, speaking for so many of us in the community, we all feel the same way. The thought of being woken up in a male ward… I’d honestly rather just not get treatment at all than have to go through that. It’s just something we all strongly feel.
She explained that the Supreme Court ruling made her think a lot about her own femininity – how others would perceive her, and whether her understanding of what it meant to be a woman aligned with traditional Western expectations.
‘And then I went insane about my identity.’
Earlier this year, Nadia was a guest on the Remember Me? podcast. Host Maisie Adam asked her, “What’s a typical misunderstanding people have about being famous?”
She explained that people often think fame brings happiness, but that’s not true. While fame can sometimes lead to wealth, it doesn’t automatically mean becoming rich. Ultimately, fame isn’t the same as either happiness or a large income; it’s something different altogether.
‘Fame is actually the worst side of being a public person.
