Tennis lovers, get ready to watch! Netflix has released the trailer for Rafa, a new documentary series about Rafael Nadal. The series offers a rare, behind-the-scenes look at the life and career of the 14-time French Open champion, showing the incredible determination and physical toll it takes to be one of the greatest athletes ever.
So, I just finished watching Rafa, and honestly, it’s incredible. The studio behind it, Skydance Sports – they did Air and that Cowboys doc, which were both really well done – they’ve brought that same cinematic quality to Nadal’s story. It’s a four-part docuseries that basically shows his whole life, starting when he first picked up a racket at three years old, all the way up to his tough comeback attempt in 2024. It’s a really compelling look at his journey.
The series rightfully acknowledges Rafael Nadal’s incredible success at the French Open and his legendary competitions with Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. However, its main goal is to reveal the struggles he faced behind the scenes. Entitled Rafa, the series delves into the immense pressure, debilitating pain, and extraordinary determination it took for him to keep playing even when his body was failing. Featuring never-before-seen footage and honest accounts from those closest to him, the series offers a raw and personal look at an athlete whose biggest challenge was often his own physical condition.
Director Zach Heinzerling, known for his work on documentaries like Stolen Youth and McCartney 3,2,1, said that while everyone anticipates a story of success with Rafael Nadal, what really stood out was his openness about the doubts and insecurities he faced along the way.
With the world still celebrating his incredible career, a new documentary series about Rafael Nadal is set to be a must-watch for tennis lovers and anyone who appreciates amazing athletic achievements. Called Rafa, the series will debut worldwide on Netflix on May 29, 2026.
