Bethesda’s Obsession with Elder Scrolls 6 Strands Fallout 5

Following the highly anticipated launch of “Starfield” in 2023, Bethesda has redirected its efforts towards their next venture – “The Elder Scrolls 6”. It’s been six years since the game was initially unveiled. The brief 30-second trailer didn’t offer much detail but did showcase a vast terrain and the game’s logo.

Waiting for news about The Elder Scrolls 6 feels like an eternity, as the company hasn’t provided significant updates on its progress. Although Bethesda has released an Oblivion remaster, it fails to satisfy our anticipation for a fresh addition to the series.

It’s fair to assume that the upcoming Elder Scrolls game remains several years off, and this lengthy wait is now affecting another Bethesda title that has been absent from shelves for quite some time.

Elder Scrolls 6 has sabotaged the next Fallout game

Over the past few years, Bethesda has faced some tough times. Its latest projects have not been successful, which is why it’s understandable that Todd Howard and his crew are taking their time with the upcoming highly anticipated project, the Elder Scrolls 6. Fans are eager to see how Bethesda will develop one of the most iconic RPGs ever made.

Lately, there’s been a renewed interest in Bethesda’s Fallout series, thanks to Amazon Prime’s successful live-action adaptation. Some people think that if Bethesda were to launch a Fallout 5 now, riding this wave of excitement, it could become a blockbuster game.

Regrettably, the realization of Fallout 5 appears to be a future ambition for Bethesda, as they are primarily focusing their efforts on crafting Elder Scrolls 6. Additionally, it seems that Bethesda has been dedicating significant time to a collaboration with Virtuos Studios on the remastered version of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

It might seem surprising that a large company like Bethesda doesn’t employ thousands, given its involvement in numerous projects. But, as a developer noted, such a company can’t tackle everything simultaneously due to the need for time to create high-quality games.

Reddit Post

It’s commendable that Bethesda has been focusing on correcting past errors and creating top-notch games. However, delaying the release of one of their most prominent franchises may not be a wise move.

Creating triple-A games comes with hefty costs. Yet, Bethesda is a financially successful enterprise generating vast sums annually. Therefore, they have the means to recruit more skilled professionals quickly, potentially speeding up several projects simultaneously.

In the community, there’s a growing sentiment that the longer Bethesda spends on creating a game, the louder the warning bells become. Frankly, it’s astonishing that Howard and his team needed more than a year to produce one of the most underwhelming DLCs ever made.

Some people think it’s worth considering if Bethesda should rent out the development of Fallout 5 to another studio. Nevertheless, it seems rather improbable as another team could potentially produce something even more outstanding than what Bethesda is capable of delivering.

Bethesda needs to understand that allowing the Fallout IP to remain dormant for extended periods can lead to it becoming obsolete. Unlike The Elder Scrolls, Fallout doesn’t have the same lasting power, and its latest installment was a significant letdown. Therefore, Howard and his team should consider hiring additional developers or entrusting the development of Fallout 5 to an outside party.

When will Fallout 5 hit the shelves?

It’s surprising how Bethesda, the company behind one of its most iconic franchises, has chosen this approach. As we mentioned earlier, Bethesda is developing “The Elder Scrolls 6,” and there are whispers that it might be released as early as 2026.

Should Bethesda continue with their existing development style and prioritize “Fallout 5” following the launch of “Elder Scrolls 6”, it’s unlikely that the game will be released before the year 2030.

The outcome will largely hinge on Bethesda’s post-release status for Elder Scrolls 6. If it’s another flop like Starfield, the studio may need to spend extra time strategizing the next Fallout game, as they can’t afford another setback similar to Firewalk Studios following Concord.
