Bethesda Gifts The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered Keys to Entire Skyblivion Modding Team
Enthusiasts of The Elder Scrolls series are lauding Bethesda Softworks today, as the studio has granted complimentary game keys for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered to the entire team behind the well-known mod, Skyblivion.
Today on BlueSky, the Skyblivion crew announced that they had received some exciting news from Bethesda. Essentially, Bethesda has generously given out Oblivion Remastered game keys to the entire modding team of Skyblivion! The team is deeply appreciative and can’t express enough gratitude for this kind gesture. A big thank you goes out to Bethesda!
The project known as Skyblivion is a fan-made reimagining of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, crafted by the TESRenewal volunteer modding team. By employing Bethesda’s Creation Engine, they are recreating Oblivion within the gameplay framework of its sequel, Skyrim. This ambitious project has been in development for over a decade; starting as a straightforward port, it evolved into an extensive remake featuring numerous enhancements and even original content. Back in 2021, we had the opportunity to speak with one of its developers. Skyblivion is anticipated for release this year.
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve always kept tabs on the relationship between Bethesda and the Skyblivion crew. Historically, they’ve been on good terms, but when whispers of an official Oblivion remaster started circulating, some fans raised eyebrows, wondering if maybe Bethesda was trying to preempt Skyblivion with their own version, given the eerily similar release schedules. Just recently, ahead of today’s showcase, the Skyblivion team spoke up about these concerns. In their statement, they emphasized that Bethesda has been a strong supporter of projects like ours and there’s no need for comparisons or competitive feelings between our games.
To clarify, Oblivion Remastered doesn’t offer official mod support, but fans are already creating unofficial mods for the game shortly after its launch. It’s worth noting that each version of Oblivion showcases unique features: Skyblivion, for example, is exclusive to PC platforms and promises new content, while Oblivion Remastered comes with horse armor DLC at launch for Deluxe Edition owners. Both versions present different aesthetics and interpretations regarding the degree of Skyrim-like elements in a reimagined Oblivion. Lastly, you can start playing Oblivion Remastered now, but those eager for Skyblivion will have to be patient for a bit longer.
As we anticipate the launch, feel free to delve into the perspectives of certain gamers who view this update as a remake rather than a remaster, as well as understanding Bethesda’s reasoning behind labeling it “Remastered” from the outset.
In Oblivion Remastered, you’ll have access to an all-encompassing guide that covers everything from an extensive Interactive Map, detailed walkthroughs for both the Main Questline and every Guild Quest, tips on creating your optimal character, suggestions for what to do initially, and a host of other helpful information.
