Best Spell Blade Build Guide in Tainted Grail Fall of Avalon

In this freshly released adventure titled “Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon,” I’ve found myself immersed in a world where character creation is entirely up to my imagination. Just like many other games, the freedom here allows me to design a build that suits my preferences best, even if it might not be the most efficient setup. In this write-up, I’d love to share some tips on how to master the role of a spell blade!

Hope you find these insights helpful in your journey through Avalon!

Best Spell Blade Build Guide in Tainted Grail Fall of Avalon

Just so you know, if you’re unfamiliar with the concept, being a Spell Blade means you’ll be engaging in combat using a blend of physical attacks and magic. This duality requires you to strike a good balance between the two elements for optimal effectiveness in every battle.

This method may not cause significant damage, especially when stacked against strategies that focus on a specific damage type or fighting style. Be aware of this fact, particularly if you’re playing on the highest difficulty level.

To begin, here’s what you should initially gather: weapons and spells. We will provide some guidance on potential sources, but it will be up to you to discover their precise locations or enemies to defeat in order to obtain them.

  • Frostblade – The Frostblade is a one handed sword that deals cold damage, and it can be found by defeating an enemy known as Nivera the Chillheart. It requires 10 strength and 5 spirituality to equip, and it gains bonus damage if paired with the Inferno Blade. Speaking of which…
  • Inferno Blade – The Inferno Blade, as you would expect, is a one handed sword that deals fire damage. It deals bonus damage if it is paired with the Frostblade, though at a smaller percentage in comparison. It also requires 10 strength and 5 spirituality to equip.
  • Life Transfusion Spell – This spell can be acquired from the Blood Lake, which is near one of the earlier areas you explore at the start of the game. You will have to enter a cave in this area, and then you are going to clear an entire dungeon first before you can get to a chest that contains the scroll to learn it.
  • Thunder Lash Spell – There are several ways to get this spell, including completing certain side quests in the game or simply exploring within the region that the first act takes place in. It is a lightning attack that deals a lot of damage and can even bounce to nearby enemies.

In terms of armor selection, there’s a wide variety available to suit your needs. You can customize based on whether your concern is about regeneration speed, overall health, or inflicting damage.

Your primary aim usually involves enhancing your spell potency and magical critical success rate. You can achieve this by employing items like pieces from the Royal set, the Queen’s Crown, or even combining them with some Arcanist set items for improved durability.

As I gear up for this adventure, I find myself settling for medium armor class. It’s agile enough for me to dodge around, yet sturdy enough to absorb hits when needed. This build, in particular, allows me to take on some damage, thanks to the fact that I’ll be regaining a good chunk of health during combat anyway.

To achieve an optimal balance in your abilities, you’ll need to blend strength and spirituality, as each has its unique advantages. However, this combination might result in a lower damage output compared to what you might expect from focusing solely on one aspect. This is necessary to effectively employ the “spell blade” setup without significantly hindering either style.

Additionally, consider allocating some resources towards increasing your stamina, which will enhance your durability and load-carrying capacity since you’ll likely be transporting a significant amount of equipment and valuables. It may also be beneficial to invest in a bit of agility for the purpose of handling specific items effectively.

To amplify your combat prowess, concentrate on enhancing your attack power using both magic and one-handed weaponry. Particularly, take a closer look at these skill enhancements:

  • Agile Fighter (Strength) – This node, when at max level, will give you 20% bonus damage with one handed weapons. This will increase your damage output with both of the swords that you will be using.
  • Godly Physique (Strength) – This just gives you a flat 25% damage bonus with melee weapons when it is maxed out.
  • Unending Assault (Strength) – When maxed out, this node will give you up to 15% damage after stacking consecutive hits on a single enemy. This will work wonders against bosses and single tough enemies, though it will not work well when you are facing a mob.
  • Strikes of Luck (Strength) – This works the same way as the previous skill node, but it increases your critical strike chance rather than damage. Again, it is perfect for bosses and single enemies that have a lot of health.
  • Symmetric Combat (Strength) – It increases your attack speed by a decent amount if you are using two weapons of the same type, which you will be due to the blades at your disposal.
  • Mana Battery (Spirituality) – When maxed out, this skill node will give you a ton of max mana. This will allow you to spam spells at your leisure, as you will very likely never run out due to your innate mana regeneration and the fact that you will be swinging swords around most of the time.
  • Eldritch Desperation (Spirituality) – This node increases your spell power by up to double the amount if you are below a certain mana threshold. This is perfect for burst damage when you start spamming spells in between regular combat.
  • Arcane Teachings (Spirituality) – This increases your spell power by a decent amount, especially when the node is completely maxed out. Always nice to have, since it is a very significant and much needed boost due to how our stats will be split up.
  • Elemental Infusion (Spirituality) – Finally, this node can be considered once you can start applying various status effects on enemies.

Regarding the remaining skill nodes, feel free to innovate by choosing what seems most suitable for your unique playing approach, or consider adjustments if you find there’s a gap in your damage effectiveness or survivability.

An additional aspect to explore involves nodes which deplete enemies’ stamina when they receive specific kinds of damage. You might also want to experiment with abilities that cause enemies to become stunned as they get hit.

As a fan, I appreciate how spacious the combat environment feels, providing me with ample chances to dish out unhindered damage, making up for any lackluster initial impact.

Essentially, structures such as these often lag behind “purer” configurations in performance, primarily because their stats are divided differently. While you can enhance the effectiveness with a superior weapon and magic pairing, your talent distribution would likely require significant alterations.

Essentially, we’ve reached the end of this build. If you’re interested in a setup that excels in single combat with a magic-centric focus, I would recommend checking out our magic-oriented build guide for Tainted Grail: Fall of Avalon. This build primarily invests heavily in spirituality and a touch of endurance, but it will require you to forego the use of blades altogether.
