BBC acquires new crime drama series from DCI Banks writer
As a dedicated fan of British crime dramas with a penchant for gritty mysteries and compelling characters, I am absolutely ecstatic about the upcoming series, “The One That Got Away.” Having grown up in Wales and being no stranger to the intricate dynamics of small coastal towns, I can’t wait to immerse myself in this gripping drama set in Pembroke Dock.
Writer Catherine Tregenna, known for DCI Banks, is set to write the script for a fresh crime drama produced by the BBC.
The scriptwriter, known for work on “Law & Order: UK,” is set to pen the screenplays for “The One That Got Away,” a captivating six-episode drama inspired by the Welsh-language show “Cleddau.
In a quaint Welsh coastal village, the storyline of “The One That Got Away ” unfolds around Elen Rhys’ character, Ffion Lloyd, who is a detective inspector. She teams up with her ex-lover, DS Rick Walters, played by Richard Harrington, to investigate the homicide of a nurse.
An act of murder reopens ancient wounds within a tight-knit community, casting doubt on a long-standing verdict and suggesting the possibility of a new, chilling assassin. The story delves into the investigation of the town, its killer, and a significant relationship, both past and present.
Besides Rhys and Harrington, it’s worth mentioning that Rhian Blythe has joined the cast as well. Notably, the series will be produced and shot in Pembroke Dock, making its debut on BBC Four and can also be streamed on BBC iPlayer.
The Series That Slipped Away offers a tantalizingly tense and ominous suspense – guaranteed to hold BBC viewers captivated until the final moment…”, is one way to paraphrase the original sentence while maintaining its meaning and readability.
Excitedly, I’m eagerly waiting for the release of “The One That Got Away,” but in the meantime, my anticipation is heightened by the BBC’s recent announcement of a reboot for “The Inspector Lynley Mysteries.” This fresh adaptation, titled “Lynley,” promises to be an updated interpretation of Elizabeth George’s novels, set against the backdrop of contemporary times.
The four-episode series showcases Leon Suter, Sophia Barclay, and Daniel Mays in its cast. It revolves around a detective, who finds his aristocratic upbringing reemerging when he teams up with a practical, lower-class colleague.
George expressed his excitement over the return of Thomas Lynley and Barbara Havers on TV, particularly with the involvement of the BBC, BritBox, and Playground’s production skills. Seeing his characters come alive on screen feels like a wonderful occasion for him.
The One That Got Away has no release date.
