Avowed’s bewitching world may dazzle, but the tarp physics are the real magic

In my opinion, “Avowed” truly leaves me awestruck! The vibrant, fungal realm it presents is just one of its many captivating aspects. What really stands out for me, though, is the remarkable tarp physics – a seemingly simple yet incredibly effective mechanic that adds an extra layer of realism to this enchanting dark fantasy universe.

I’ve had my share of jumping on tarps in video games, and more often than not, it feels like the character goes right through them as if they were ghosts. However, to my delight, Avowed handles this quite differently by responding to your touch, swaying and making you lose balance just as it would in reality. If timed correctly, it’ll create a tear that eventually causes the tarp to rip apart, causing quite a stir in the market districts of the Living Lands. An added bonus is the ripping sound, much like a cherry on top.

As a gamer, the little touches like this really make a difference to me. Instead of going with the usual routine, Obsidian Entertainment took the extra step to refine this detail, which greatly enhances the game’s realism and immersion for players like myself.

I’ve been adventuring across the market district on makeshift surfboards (tarps), eagerly anticipating the unpredictable scenarios physics might present me with. It feels like a nostalgic journey back to my carefree childhood, when I would delve into every hidden corner of a video game, pushing the boundaries of its world with nothing but my insatiable curiosity and playful spirit.

During my extended gameplay session of Avowed, I’ve unearthed numerous intricate aspects. One particularly gripping moment was when I stood at a great height, taking in the breathtaking vista, and below, I spotted the remains of an unlucky wanderer. Yes, I did rummage through their belongings afterwards – one must find ways to fund one’s pursuits.

There are so many amazing discoveries waiting to be made, and I’ve barely touched a couple of them. I believe there’s plenty more for you to uncover on your own. Who knows? You might stumble upon something extraordinary, just like I did, creating your very own thrilling escapades.
