Avowed director would “love to see us do more” with the RPG after laying the groundwork for sequels and DLC

After The Outer Worlds 2, which is due out this year, Obsidian Entertainment has yet to reveal what their next project will be. However, the director of Avowed expresses interest in further developing the fantasy RPG’s universe.

This week, Avowed was officially launched to widespread acclaim, delving into the first-person realm of the Pillars of Eternity universe. GamesRadar’s review echoed this enthusiasm, while fans seem equally enthused. Even the developers themselves have expressed satisfaction with the game’s early financial success, hinting at a potential sequel and their own eagerness to continue the project.

After constructing this amazing world and establishing our team’s prowess and familiarity with its content and gameplay, Carrie Patel, the game director, expressed her desire to further explore and develop it in an interview with Bloomberg. Whether these future developments take the form of expansions or a standalone sequel remains uncertain, but either way, Patel is eager to continue guiding the project following her initial experience as a director in one of The Outer Worlds’ expansions.

For the woman and her team at Avowed, the upcoming project may not require such an extended development period as their latest venture, which apparently underwent multiple reboots before Patel managed to steer it back on course. “I’ve noticed that every project I’ve been involved with or observed during my time here has a stage where things are chaotic and disorganized,” she shared. “The question is, can we identify that stage more quickly? Or at least recognize the elements that require our focus to avoid such chaos? Absolutely, we will reach our destination, we’re making progress.

Initially, Avowed didn’t mark the start of Eora, as you might assume. On a few occasions, Josh Sawyer hinted at the potential creation of an isometric Pillars of Eternity 3. However, such a project would only materialize if Microsoft agreed to invest a budget comparable to Baldur’s Gate 3.
