A significant villain originally expected to appear in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie is now rumored to be saved for Avengers: Secret Wars instead. Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to be released later this year, while Avengers: Secret Wars will follow near the end of next year.
Thanos won’t be in Avengers: Doomsday but could be in Secret Wars
A new report suggests Thanos, the big bad from the Infinity Saga in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, won’t appear in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie. But, he’s expected to return for the next installment, Avengers: Secret Wars.
A popular source, MyTimetoShineHello, recently shared on X (formerly Twitter) that Thanos won’t appear in the upcoming ‘Doomsday’ film, but will return in ‘Secret Wars’.
This rumor comes after another report from James Mack, who posted on X that Thanos will no longer appear in the upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday. He specified that this was the latest information he had.
It’s important to remember that both of these claims are currently just rumors. We should consider them unconfirmed until Marvel Studios officially announces whether Thanos will appear in Doomsday and Secret Wars.
The primary version of Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was killed by Thor at the start of Avengers: Endgame after he destroyed the Infinity Stones to stop anyone from undoing his snap, which had eliminated half of all life. Later in the same movie, a Thanos from 2014 appeared as the villain, but he was ultimately defeated by the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and their allies.
Since then, alternate versions of the character have appeared in the animated series What If…?
The movie Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to come out in theaters on December 18, 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars will follow a year later, on December 17, 2027. Both films are directed by Anthony and Joe Russo.
