“Audacious” psychological thriller that will “leave you speechless” lands streaming release date

Sydney Sweeney’s new thriller, The Housemaid, has been well-received by both critics and audiences. The film is based on Freida McFadden’s popular 2022 novel and was directed by Paul Feig, known for films like A Simple Favor and Bridesmaids.

The movie’s success was largely thanks to its actors. According to The Australian, even as the plot gets increasingly unbelievable, the strong performances from Amanda Seyfried, Sydney Sweeney, and Brandon Sklenar keep the film engaging.

Social media reactions were particularly enthusiastic, with one reviewer calling The Housemaid “WILD.” They praised its playful and stylish beginning, describing it as a lot of fun before it unexpectedly becomes a tense and gripping thriller that will keep you hooked.

If you didn’t get to see the movie in theaters, good news – it will be available to rent or buy online very soon.

Starting February 3, 2026, you’ll be able to rent or buy The Housemaid on popular streaming platforms like Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango at Home, Google TV, and YouTube.

The thriller The Housemaid centers on Millie, a woman with a criminal past, who becomes a live-in housekeeper for the affluent Winchester family – Andrew and Nina.

Millie thinks she’s landed her dream job, but it quickly becomes a treacherous situation filled with sex, scandal, and power struggles when she begins to uncover hidden and disturbing truths about her family.

After a string of unsuccessful films, including the poorly received boxing movie Christy (described by The Guardian as dull and uninspired), The Housemaid appears to be a turning point for Sweeney.

The Guardian gave the film The Housemaid four out of five stars, praising its over-the-top performances and clever use of flashbacks to reveal the truth. While acknowledging it’s a bit silly, the review highlights that director Paul Feig and the cast deliver a fun and energetic holiday film.

The movie has been a huge commercial success, earning over $300 million worldwide. This makes it director Paul Feig’s most profitable film yet, exceeding the earnings of his previous hit, Bridesmaids.

The Housemaid is out on premium video on demand services from 3 February, 2026.
