Atomfall Wicked Isle DLC Brings New Area and More Next Week
The makers of Atomfall have declared that their first significant story expansion pack, titled Wicked Isle, will become available next week. If you don’t possess the Deluxe Edition, you can purchase this expansion separately. However, if you do own the Deluxe Edition, you’ll already be entitled to play it.
According to a recent announcement, Wicked Isle is set to debut on June 3rd. This update introduces Midsummer Island as a fresh location within Atomfall, offering players the opportunity to discover new weapons, clues, and potentially alternate conclusions along the way.
It’s likely clear to you that the game Wicked Isle relies heavily on the folk horror aspects of its precursor, Atomfall. If you haven’t played the original game yet, let me avoid spoilers by saying that it involves more than just encounters with bandits and overly aggressive military personnel.
According to Ben Fisher, who leads the design team, since Midsummer is situated nearer to the Windscale facility compared to other parts of Atomfall’s world, “the contamination levels among the population and the surroundings are significantly greater than in the mainland.
So, you’ll meet various new hostile groups, some of them so corrupted that negotiation might not work. Additionally, a group of rogue pirates known as bandits will appear during Midsummer, leaving the decision on how to handle them to you.
Among the latest additions are a blunderbuss, an innovative bow, and “The Beekeeper’s Staff”, which seems to me like a not-so-veiled allusion to Nicolas Cage’s less-than-stellar 2006 reboot of the chilling British folk horror film, The Wicker Man.
Beyond just that, you’ll gain additional abilities too! Plus, your improved metal detector will aid you in locating treasure hoards filled with even more valuable items. Essentially, if you’re a fan of Atomfall, chances are you’ll enjoy this update as well.
Launched in March, Atomfall saw rapid success upon release, amassing over a million players within its initial weekend. Notably, it was made available through the Game Pass service from day one.
