As the official Oblivion remaster is all but confirmed, the modder who’s been unofficially remaking the RPG in Skyrim for 13 years says “this changes nothing for me”
Despite spending thirteen years on an unofficial remake, it might seem like discovering an official remaster would cause a slight pang of disappointment, yet surprisingly, the head modder responsible for the unofficial Oblivion remake Skyblivion appears to be unaffected by this development.
As a fervent enthusiast, I must clarify that an official Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion remaster has yet to be officially unveiled, but with leaked images emerging this week, it seems Xbox Support agents have confirmed the rumors. They’ve indicated that the Oblivion remaster is indeed in the works, set for release on April 21st, and will be available on Game Pass. In essence, the gaming community can hardly contain its excitement as this game appears to be the most anticipated secret in the industry at present.
Initially, upon learning the news, my immediate reaction was something like, “Oh, that must be tough for the Skyblivion team,” as they have been dedicated to their self-made Oblivion reboot for a whopping 13 years now. However, contrary to what one might expect, Skyblivion’s project leader Rebelzize expressed no concern about the official remaster in a tweet (via PC Gamer). In fact, he seemed quite pleased with it.
Originally, he playfully said, “The true remake are the friends we’ve gained throughout,” but later clarified sincerely: “To set the record straight, this doesn’t affect me in any way. This project has always been a labor of love for me and remains so till the end. For the community, it’s a double win as you get twice as much Oblivion this year. I hold nothing but affection towards those who created the official remaster.
Personally, I remain quite thrilled about Skyblivion, as it appears impressive and was almost ready for release in February, based on Rebelzize’s own words. It remains uncertain if Bethesda’s remaster could dampen Skyblivion’s appeal, but I’m glad to learn that the modders remain undeterred by this development.
In a subsequent comment, Rebelzize expressed, “Given that this received more interest than anticipated, I’d like to express my hope that you will find enjoyment, whether it’s the original version or our remake. Regardless, thank you for your support and remember to treat each other kindly.
Skyblivion is due out in 2025.
