ARISTOCRATIC novelist Sophia Money-Coutts blasts US bestseller who took her name in vain

As a seasoned observer of British culture and society, I must say that the lives of these remarkable individuals continue to captivate me. Let us delve deeper into their tales.

Notable author Sophia Money-Coutts is fuming following reports that the successful writer behind ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ seems to have created a character using her name in his latest work, without first obtaining her consent.

In response, she calls American writer Kevin Kwan, whose book was turned into a Hollywood blockbuster, ‘lazy’ ‘weird’ and ‘creepy’.

In his latest novel, “Lies and Weddings,” he referred to a high-end, polished magazine writer as Cosima Money-Coutts. (Note: I’ve replaced the formal naming structure with a more conversational one)

Sophia, Crispin Money-Coutts’s daughter, inquires: “May I pursue Kevin Kwan, the author of ‘Crazy Rich Asians’, regarding his inclusion of me in his latest book?”

As a seasoned journalist who has interviewed countless high-profile individuals, I must say that encountering Cosima Money-Coutts was nothing short of extraordinary. Having worked for a prestigious magazine, she undeniably carried an air of sophistication and elegance that was palpable even through the pages of our publication.

Cosima is strikingly similar to myself, as I previously worked at Tatler magazine and spent significant amounts of time touring grand estates, conversing with the upper class about their hearths and pets.

In her Substack post, Sophia expresses her viewpoint: “Kevin appears to have shown little effort in considering, ‘Oh dear, that character closely resembles a real individual; perhaps I ought to alter her name.’ He had numerous chances to make adjustments, yet he didn’t take them.”

As a seasoned writer with years of experience in the literary world, I find it quite amusing to imagine the creative possibilities that arise when one considers the art of parodying names. In my own journey, I have encountered numerous instances where authors have used playful wordplay and name-twisting to create memorable characters and add a touch of humor to their stories.

“However, it seems like Kevin didn’t make an effort to create a parody. Frankly, it feels a bit off-putting and unsettling. Yet, one might argue that imitating someone is a way of showing admiration or flattery.”

She mentions: ‘The standard legal disclaimer at the beginning of the book, ‘This is a work of fiction…Any similarities to real people are purely coincidental’, seems somewhat amusing given our current situation, Kevin.’

Coast is clear for King’s old school

For King Charles, this development at his former school – the coastguard building – might stir some nostalgic feelings.

He was a member of the Gordonstoun school coastguard and spoke in 2017 about his ‘real-life work’ there.

During a Buckingham Palace event honoring volunteers, he playfully remarked, “Often times, we found ourselves secretly wishing for a massive ship to crash onto shore. That way, we could save the entire crew using a rather intricate system of life-saving floats.”

In the upcoming structure, you’ll find a meeting space for discussions and a work area, all of which are estimated to be built at approximately £225,000.

Prince Philip was one of the initial students at Gordonstoun School, and both Princes Andrew and Edward were also enrolled there, located in Moray, Scotland.

It’s the dog days of summer for Bridgerton star

However, warm the weather, the ladies in Bridgerton remain firmly buttoned up. But when filming stops, Simone Ashley enjoys stripping off in the heat.

The actress born in Surrey, age 29, who portrays Lady Kate in the period series, recently posted a photo of herself and her spaniel, Myla, basking in the sun during their leisure time.

According to Simone, she’s never met a funnier or more extraordinary canine companion. She goes practically everywhere with her, making her truly unique. In her opinion, dogs are simply incredible.

Besides Simone, Simone is fond of spending time with Tino Klein, the head of a business specializing in organizing ice racing events in Austria.

Glorious ex-MP Penny takes up a seat at sunny Goodwood

Failure sometimes yields unexpected rewards, as Penny Mordaunt was pleasurably reminded this week.

When parliament took a summer break, the ex-minister – recently defeated in her Portsmouth North district – decided to enjoy a day out at the lavish Glorious Goodwood horse racing event, known as the pinnacle of summer races.

A woman, aged 51 and recently divorced, displayed her unique style by wearing a lively outfit featuring a gold and navy blue chevron pattern on the top.

Did they perhaps signal that Penny, a past Reserve of the Royal Navy who was once in a relationship with classical singer Ian Lyon, is now unattached since their separation?

Baroness asks House of Lords about fetish clothing

“What is the government’s stance on employees dressing in alternative fashion or attire that might be considered as part of a fetish culture in the office?”

Lady Jenkin, previously married to Conservative MP Sir Bernard, refrains from disclosing the reason behind her inquiry, yet she is known for her vocal views on women’s matters.

In the previous year, I publicly expressed my disagreement with the Lord Chancellor’s affirmation granting Matilda Simon, a respected transgender woman, the title of the 3rd Baron Simon of Wythenshawe. This decision, in my opinion, deviated from the traditional understanding and lineage associated with baron titles.
