Story Highlights
- Archeland has officially announced a final service termination for March 25, 2026, across KR and JP servers.
- The decision follows a previous 2024 “EoS reversal” that kept the game without new content for 1.5 years.
The turn-based strategy RPG Archeland will officially shut down on March 25, 2026, bringing the game to a permanent end. This closure affects both the Korean and Japanese servers, and it appears unlikely the decision will be reversed.
Developers admitted Archeland failed to meet expectations despite attempts to revamp the title
The development team announced that after a year and a half of work trying to fix issues and improve the game following last year’s problems, they hadn’t achieved the results players were hoping for.
The Korean server of the game previously announced it would shut down in July 2024, but then reversed that decision just a month later, which caught many players off guard. Even though the game remained available, it hasn’t received any new updates for about a year and a half.
A closed beta for a refreshed version of the game, called “Archeland RE,” was tested in Taiwan in December 2025. Initial feedback suggests the main story and gameplay remained largely unchanged, though they did make some adjustments to game balance and how players could spend money. The game’s Facebook page hasn’t been updated since the test.
It’s currently unclear if this updated version will ever be officially released, or if the project has been cancelled. For now, Archeland has been taken off digital stores, making it another game that never launched worldwide.
The recent shutdown of Archeland continues a trend of game closures in 2026. So far this year, we’ve already seen several games disappear, including the classic Sonic the Hedgehog titles, Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile, and EA SPORTS FC Tactical, among others.
Several gacha RPGs have recently shut down, including Goddess Order, Tsukuyomi: The Divine Hunter, Isekai∞Isekai, and OUTRANKERS – all within months of their release. Oz Re:write also closed this year, and it never even launched worldwide.
In my column about mobile gaming disappointments, I talked about how 2025 was a difficult year for the industry, with many anticipated games never being released worldwide. Sadly, it appears this might continue into 2026, although I’m optimistic we won’t see the same thing happen again.
