Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson received more bad news this week when their radio show was officially cancelled.
The latest radio ratings reveal that The Kyle & Jackie O Show, which is no longer on air, saw a drop in listeners in Sydney. They also performed poorly in Melbourne, finishing eighth place – behind the Jase & Lauren show on Nova 100.
Jackie’s ratings probably dropped after she suddenly left on February 20th, especially since it happened right after a public argument with her coworker.
Between January 18th and February 28th, Jackie was absent from the airwaves for a full week, and during that time, the show’s audience dropped by 60,000 listeners.
Despite finishing second in Sydney’s radio ratings with a 12.7% share, the duo still had successful careers at KIIS FM. Ben Fordham on 2GB was the top performer, ahead by four percentage points.
As a lifestyle and media observer, I’ve been watching the Melbourne radio scene closely, and I’m happy to report The Kyle & Jackie O Show is finally gaining some momentum! They’ve been working hard to connect with listeners there for almost two years, and it’s great to see their ratings starting to climb. It’s been a tough market for them, but things are definitely looking up.
The survey showed a slight increase of 0.1 percentage point, bringing their market share to a modest 5.1 percent.
Their cumulative audience in Melbourne was just 403,000 listeners.
Nova 100’s breakfast show, hosted by Jason Hawkins and Lauren Phillips, climbed to second place, gaining 2.2 percent and achieving an 11.1 percent share of the audience.
Meanwhile, 3AW’s Russel & Ross show led the Melbourne market with an 18.9 share.
On Wednesday, Kyle Sandilands revealed that his radio show, The Kyle & Jackie O Show, had been cancelled. Australian Radio Network, the company that owns KIIS FM, ended his ten-year contract, which was worth $100 million, with a statement released at 7am.
Only an hour after making his surprising announcement, news.com.au reported that Michael Stephenson, the CEO of ARN, emailed staff to confirm that The Kyle & Jackie O Show was cancelled.
An email stated that ARN has cancelled its contract with Kyle and Quasar Media, effective this morning.
‘As a result ARN will no longer present the Kyle and Jackie O Show.’
The cancellation of the show came as a surprise to KIIS staff. Reports indicate that some of those working on the show aren’t directly employed by ARN, the radio network, but are instead employed through Kyle Sandilands’ company, King Kyle.
According to a source, employees are concerned about job security and dissatisfied with the way things have been managed.
According to a source, many employees learned about the news through social media before receiving any official communication. They weren’t officially informed until after the news had already become public.
I’m really frustrated with how things have been managed. It’s unfair, particularly considering the team who created the show are still coming to work every day.
Daily Mail reached out to ARN, who declined to comment.
ARN revealed last month they ended Jackie’s $100 million contract after she informed management she could no longer work with Kyle Sandilands. This decision followed Sandilands’ on-air remarks, which upset her greatly.
They also informed Kyle in writing that his actions at the February 20th show were a serious violation of the agreement between ARN and Quasar Media.
Kyle was given a 14-day suspension during which he was required to ‘remedy the breach.’
