I just found out that Suffragette is streaming on Channel 4 for free, and I’m so excited! It’s a really powerful British period drama with an amazing cast – Anne-Marie Duff, Meryl Streep, and Helena Bonham Carter are all in it. The movie takes place in 1912 and tells the story of Maud, a laundry worker played by Carey Mulligan, and how her life changes when she gets involved in the fight for women’s suffrage in Britain. It’s a truly moving film.
The historical film about the suffrage movement also stars Brendan Gleeson and Ben Whishaw.
While Channel 4 has shown the film Suffragette before, it was removed from their streaming service in August 2025.

When Suffragette came out, it was popular with both audiences and reviewers, earning $38 million despite costing only $14 million to make.
Currently, the film has a 73% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics generally agree that Suffragette tells a vital and unfortunately still timely true story, and its strengths in filmmaking and genuine emotion more than make up for any weaknesses.
In a review, The Times praised Suffragette as an inspiring and energetic story, noting that Carey Mulligan delivers a passionate performance with nuanced depth.

In a review, The Age described the film as a well-intentioned and thoughtful historical drama that, while clearly telling its story and focusing on a likable character, ultimately feels a bit lifeless.
Carey Mulligan received widespread acclaim for her performance as Maud, with the Minneapolis Star Tribune noting she convincingly portrayed a character who undergoes a remarkable change – evolving from an ordinary mother into a pioneering feminist figure.
According to Rolling Stone, the film Suffragette is a significant movie, even with its imperfections, offering a refreshing change from typical Hollywood fare.
On IMDb, it has been described by fans as “outstanding” and “a finely crafted British film”.
Suffragette is streaming now on Channel 4.
