Anitta is a huge star who doesn’t rely on the American market, but many Americans are discovering how much they enjoy her music. She recently made history as the first Brazilian artist to perform on Saturday Night Live, and her appearance proves she won’t be the last.
Anitta, a Grammy nominee, performed two songs from her new album, Equilibrium, which will be released by Republic Records on April 16th. This will be her eighth studio album. She’s been a huge star in Brazil for over ten years and is gaining popularity throughout Latin America, though she’s still working to achieve mainstream success in the United States.
Okay, so Anitta hasn’t necessarily blown up the charts with huge album and single sales yet, but trust me, seeing her live is something else. I already knew all her songs, but the way she performs them? Seriously unforgettable. She absolutely commands the stage – I’ll never forget seeing her at Coachella!
Anitta delivers two brilliant performances on Saturday Night Live
I was so excited to see Jenna Ortega host Saturday Night Live on April 11th, especially after everything I’d heard about her! It was one of the first times a huge audience would get to see her perform live, and honestly, I was really curious to see if she could win over even more fans with her appearance. I was definitely tuning in to see if she could deliver!
“Choka Choka”
This song was a surprising pick for Saturday Night Live, but that’s not a criticism. It’s actually a really good track that could get you moving – and that’s exactly what it’s meant to do.
Some viewers unfamiliar with the song might assume Anitta was pretending to sing, but that’s not true – she was genuinely performing her vocals. The reason for this is that the song, “Choka Choka,” features Shakira, who wasn’t present on this episode of SNL. Therefore, Anitta allowed Shakira’s vocals to play while she performed her own parts.
The song has a strong beat and a simple, energetic vibe. In the accompanying visuals, Anitta and four other dancers perform in brown outfits. She’s incredibly charismatic and joyful, and the track stands out as upbeat and empowering for women, even without Shakira’s involvement.
“Varias Quejas”
Okay, so her first song on the show was really upbeat, but this one is totally different – it’s much more mellow, and honestly, it suits the song so well. The tune is really smooth, and her voice sounds kind of…moody, in a good way! The song title means “Several Complaints,” which made me think it would be an angry song, but it’s not at all. It’s actually really empathetic, and you can feel that in the music.
Anitta’s movements add an artistic touch to the song. She’s also very charismatic on camera, using smiles and eye contact to connect with the audience.
She’s not just singing for her own enjoyment; she’s creating a shared experience for everyone – whether they’re in the audience, part of the band, or watching from home. She’s a confident and talented artist who has earned her dedicated fanbase.
