Angelina Jolie’s reaction to youngest daughter Vivienne, 18, filing to drop Brad Pitt’s last name revealed

Vivienne, the youngest child of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, is seeking a legal name change – specifically, she wants to remove her father’s last name. Now, details have emerged about how Angelina Jolie feels about this decision.

The 18-year-old has followed in the footsteps of her three older siblings and filed a petition in Los Angeles County Superior Court requesting that her legal name be changed from Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie.

Court records show the teenager is changing their name for personal reasons, and a judge will officially address the request on November 2nd.

Now, a source close to Jolie, 51, has told People that she is looking for ‘everyone to heal’ as her kids seek to drop Pitt from their name.

According to a source close to the situation, if everyone understood what really happened, they’d feel much more compassion for the kids involved and appreciate how well they’re handling it. Their choice not to complain or share details publicly demonstrates their good character.

‘Angie hasn’t been fighting and isn’t angry. She just wants everyone to heal.’

This petition is just the newest step in Vivienne’s continued attempt to separate herself from the Pitt family name.

In May 2024, Vivienne publicly removed her father’s last name when she was credited as a producer on the Broadway show The Outsiders. The Playbill program listed her simply as Vivienne Jolie, alongside her mother.

Vivienne, born in 2008 as a twin with her brother Knox, is the youngest of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s six children.

The Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for Pitt and Jolie for comment.

According to a recent report in the Daily Mail, Brad Pitt is very hurt by his strained relationship with his children and feels Angelina Jolie is primarily responsible for the situation.

This news follows recent announcements by Brad Pitt’s children, Zahara, 21, and Maddox, 24, who have stated they wish to legally remove his surname.

The advertisements were both published in the Los Angeles Daily Journal throughout June and July.

Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt has asked the court to legally change her name to Zahara Marley Jolie, according to a recent filing.

Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt asked the court to legally change his name to Maddox Chivan Jolie, according to court documents.

Both Zahara and Maddox have been asked to attend hearings regarding this issue. Zahara’s hearing is set for September 28th, and Maddox’s will be held on September 14th.

Okay, so if you’re planning a name change here in California, there’s a step a lot of people don’t know about. Before your court hearing, you actually have to publish a notice – it’s called an ‘Order to Show Cause’ – in a local newspaper for four weeks straight. It’s basically letting the public know you’re requesting this change, and it’s a legal requirement before the court will approve it. It can seem a little old-fashioned, but it’s just part of the process here!

Zahara filed a request to legally change her name to Zahara Marley Jolie, and a notice about this appeared one month later.

Maddox also filed to drop the actor’s last name in late May.

Zahara stopped using her last name publicly three years ago when she became a member of a sorority at Spelman College.

At her graduation, she used the name Zahara Marley Jolie. Reports from TMZ indicate that her father did not attend.

According to a source, Jolie felt like she did everything she could, and it shouldn’t have been a question of whether he would bother to be there for her. He had every opportunity to see her, but she focused on what she managed to do, not his willingness to participate.

Several sources have told the Daily Mail that claims about Brad Pitt being a distant father aren’t true. They say he does want a relationship with his six children.

Jolie and Pitt’s other daughter Shiloh, 20, has also dropped the actor’s last name.

Last year, Shiloh, who was born Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, legally changed her name to Shiloh Jolie.

Shiloh’s lawyer, Peter Levine, stated to People that she made a deliberate and important choice after difficult circumstances. He explained that publicly announcing the change was simply a routine legal step.

Brad Pitt’s relationship with his son Pax, 22, remains strained. Pax has publicly criticized his father in the past, even calling him names and claiming his younger siblings were afraid of him. It’s unclear if Pitt has managed to repair the relationship or if Pax still refers to him negatively.

Someone close to Brad Pitt previously shared with the Daily Mail how upset he was when photos surfaced of Pax Jolie-Pitt looking unsteady and needing help leaving the Chateau Marmont hotel last year.

According to a source, he simply doesn’t care what Pax does, and Pax’s behavior reveals his true character.

‘Brad honestly considers his relationship with Pax unfixable,’ they added.

According to a source, the actor isn’t trying to reconnect with his adopted sons, Pax and Maddox. They’ve reportedly made their feelings known, and he has no comment on the situation.

According to a source, Pitt remains optimistic that his other children will eventually reconcile with him, believing that time will help mend their relationships.

Someone close to Angelina Jolie responded to Brad Pitt, stating that he’s portraying himself as the victim and that his strained relationship with their children is a consequence of his actions towards them.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie became one of Hollywood’s most famous couples after meeting on the set of the 2005 movie Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and they remained in the spotlight throughout their relationship.

As a lifestyle expert, I remember when they said ‘I do’ back in August 2014 – it was a beautifully private ceremony in the South of France! Their family quickly grew with three wonderful children: Shiloh arrived in 2006, and then just two years later, they were blessed with twins, Vivienne and Knox, in 2008. It’s been lovely watching their family life unfold.

The couple expanded their family by adopting Zahara and Pax. Brad Pitt also legally adopted Angelina’s son, Maddox, who she had adopted prior to their relationship.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie separated after a difficult incident on a private plane in 2016, followed by claims of abuse that Pitt has consistently refuted.

Furthermore, he’s never faced criminal charges, and investigations by the Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services found no evidence of physical abuse.

The famous couple endured a difficult eight-year divorce that was finally settled in 2024.

The death of Pitt’s mother, Jane Etta Pitt, at age 84 last year, once again highlighted the rift within the family.

People close to the situation shared that she hadn’t seen or spoken to her grandchildren in roughly nine years, and sadly, there was no opportunity for them to connect before she passed away.

According to a source who spoke with the Daily Mail last August, what was most upsetting was Angelina preventing her children from seeing their paternal grandparents.

After a difficult divorce, Brad Pitt is now dating Ines de Ramon, a 33-year-old jewelry designer. They’ve been seeing each other for a couple of years.
