An update on Amazon’s first James Bond movie is coming “soon”

Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders, has given a hint about the new James Bond film coming to Amazon. He says an announcement is coming “soon.” Currently called James Bond 26, the movie will be written by Knight and directed by Denis Villeneuve, known for Dune.

The next James Bond film doesn’t have a title yet, and no actor has been officially cast in the role, but Callum Turner is currently a leading contender.

I was reading an interview with Sam Mendes in Variety, and they asked him about the new Bond film he’s working on. He didn’t want to give away any secrets, which is understandable, but he did say he’s really enjoying the process and having a lot of fun with it! It’s great to hear he’s so enthusiastic.

When asked about a potential update, Knight responded with a hesitant “Yes.” He clarified that the timing of any announcement depended on one’s definition of “soon,” but confirmed that progress was being made.

The upcoming announcement might just be the movie’s title, not news about who will play Bond. When the last Bond film, Casino Royale, introduced a new actor, the title was revealed in February 2005, Daniel Craig was officially confirmed a few months after that, and filming started in January 2006.

The next James Bond film could follow a similar production schedule, particularly if Denis Villeneuve doesn’t begin filming until after Dune 3 comes out in December, which is what many sources are saying.

Recently, Knight shared an update in an interview with BBC Radio 4, saying he’s really enjoying his work on the Bond project, though he couldn’t share specifics. He described the experience as fantastic.

He described Ian Fleming’s novels as excellent and surprisingly overlooked as literature. He was particularly impressed by the believable yet fantastical world Fleming created, calling it almost dreamlike. He also praised Fleming’s writing style and the quality of the dialogue.

I’m always focused on how things unfold. I have a clear vision for how I want this to progress, and I’m fortunate to be working with incredibly talented individuals. Ultimately, everyone will just have to wait and see what happens.

Starting in 2025, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, who have produced the James Bond films for many years, will share creative control of the franchise with Amazon MGM Studios. This change comes after the two companies formed a partnership.
