Amy Winehouse’s goddaughter Dionne Bromfield hits out at not being included in Mark Ronson’s BRIT Awards tribute to the late singer and brands snub an ‘insult to her legacy’

Dionne Bromfield, who Amy Winehouse considered like a daughter, has expressed her disappointment at not being included in the tribute to the singer at the recent BRIT Awards.

Record producer Mark Ronson honored the late singer, who passed away in 2011, by performing their collaborative song, “Back to Black,” and sharing a video of her speaking.

Amy’s goddaughter, Dionne Bromfield, 30, has publicly criticized the tribute, voicing her frustration at being left out.

Dionne explained the heartfelt recognition served as a painful reminder of the challenges she’s faced throughout her career, revealing that individuals within the music industry had attempted to sabotage her success.

She explained that seeing so many artists she cared about celebrated musically, while she was excluded, felt like a personal offense – and, more importantly, a disrespect to Amy and everything she stood for.

Since Saturday’s event honoring Amy, Dionne has posted a few puzzling messages online. One came in response to a fan who felt Dionne deserved to be remembered alongside Amy. Dionne responded by saying it was intentional that she wasn’t specifically mentioned.

She also reposted a fan saying she should have been enlisted to sing the lead on Back To Black.

Dionne shared a post expressing disappointment that the BRIT Awards didn’t ask her to honor her godmother, Amy Winehouse, by singing the tribute during Mark Ronson’s performance.

Dionne, an artist signed to Amy’s Lioness Records, responded to recent comments with a statement on social media, using the hashtags ‘#My thoughts’ and ‘#TheBrits’ and referencing her earlier tweets.

She wanted to make it clear that her motivation wasn’t about seeking attention or appearances. It was about something far more meaningful.

Ever since Amy died, I’ve struggled to advance my career because of difficult relationships with certain people in and around the industry.

Amy strongly supported my musical journey, even when others disagreed with her choices. After her death, it became obvious how much she had done for me, as opportunities suddenly disappeared and people actively worked to hold me back.

She explained that last night’s BRIT Awards weren’t defined by a single event, but instead highlighted a long-standing issue she’s been facing.

Seeing so many people she cared about celebrated musically, but not me, felt like a personal offense—and, more importantly, a disservice to Amy and everything she achieved.

I generally prefer to keep personal problems private, but everyone has a limit, and sometimes it’s necessary to address wrongdoing.

At the BRIT Awards, producer Mark gave a heartfelt speech honoring Amy when he accepted the award for Outstanding Contribution to Music.

Oh my gosh, you guys, I was losing it at the awards show on Saturday! My idol, the incredible record producer – he’s 50, can you believe it? – got recognized for his amazing work! And it was so emotional because he talked about how this week actually marks 20 years since he first met the musician, you know, the one we all adore. It just hit me so hard, thinking about their incredible partnership all these years. I’m still getting goosebumps!

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve always been fascinated by creative partnerships, and the story of ‘Back to Black’ is truly special. I learned that the song was actually written in a single day – and it completely transformed the artist’s life, setting him on a whole new path. It’s amazing how one moment can be so pivotal!

Mark said: ‘It means so much to me to get this award.’

The musician expressed gratitude to his longtime collaborators, such as Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, and Dua Lipa, explaining that his work with Amy Winehouse opened doors for him to collaborate with these artists.

He explained that his collaboration with Amy is what initially brought him recognition, and because of that, he’ll always cherish her voice, her skills, and their connection.

Following the award presentation by Skepta, Mark performed “Ooh Wee” alongside Ghostface Killah. He then honored Amy Winehouse with a cover of “Back to Black.”

The footage featured the late star discussing Mark, Valerie, and Amy’s band, The Dap-Kings.

After that, Uptown Funk was performed. Then, Dua Lipa unexpectedly came on stage to sing Dance The Night, a song from the Barbie movie, as well as their collaboration, Electricity.
