Okay, so I just started watching the second season of Amandaland, and Lucy Punch is hilarious as Amanda again! It’s just as crazy as the first season. She’s trying to handle her teens, build her online image, and keep her job at Kitchen’s Bathrooms and Kitchens—all while living a more low-key life in SoHa. But honestly? She’s even more focused on getting her status back than before. It’s a wild ride!
Amanda has accepted that she’ll be staying in her current area for a while, so she’s thrilled when a new, stylish coffee shop opens nearby – she sees it as a hint that the neighborhood is starting to improve. Her hopes rise even further when a large house goes up for sale, and she immediately starts dreaming of moving again, hoping her mother, Felicity, will help her afford it. However, she soon realizes things aren’t as simple as she thought.
Amanda’s life is already a mess, and her neighbor Mal isn’t helping. Things get even trickier when Mal’s ex, Abs, shows up and changes everything. On top of that, Amanda is struggling to balance being a parent with her desire to look and seem successful, and her friend Anne is the only one keeping her somewhat stable – until a video Anne posts online suddenly becomes hugely popular. The big question is: who from the original cast is back, and who’s new?

The spin-off of Motherland brings back several beloved actors, including Joanna Lumley, Philippa Dunne, and Samuel Anderson, who will once again play Felicity, Anne, and Mal. While Amanda thinks she’s improving her social life, the world around her hasn’t really changed. According to Lucy Punch, who spoke with the BBC, “Amanda is still living in SoHo, she’s more comfortable now, but continues to try and improve her social status. She’s just as self-deceived as before.”
This season introduces new characters who challenge Amanda’s beliefs. Harriet Webb plays Abs, the ex-partner of Mal and mother to his son, Ned. Abs’s arrival causes immediate tension, especially because Amanda finds it difficult to get along with her.
What to Read Next
Actor Samuel Anderson explained that his character, Mal, and Abs share a past filled with youthful errors and lingering issues. He said they both tried to do too much, too soon, but have mostly moved on from their regrets, though old feelings sometimes resurface. This unresolved history creates tension, particularly because Abs isn’t easily won over by Amanda’s attempts to be charming.
This season, we’ll meet Abs’s husband, JJ, played by Ekow Quartey. An unexpected friendship develops between JJ and Mal. Samuel shared that working with Ekow was a highlight of filming, and their connection extended off-screen as well.

Samuel said his favorite part of filming was building a shed with JJ and Ned, and a cameo from Joanna Lumley. He explained that the three of them have great chemistry, and working with Joanna just makes the experience even better.
The upcoming season includes a guest appearance by Pam Ferris, famous for her roles in the Harry Potter movies and the series Call the Midwife. She’ll play Elspeth, a delicate neighbor who owns a house Amanda desperately wants. Amanda tries to become friends with Elspeth, hoping to get closer to buying the property. Lucy, the actress playing Amanda, said she especially enjoyed working with Ferris, praising her talent and relishing the chance to portray Amanda’s sneaky, yet outwardly charming, behavior.
Honestly, I’m not sure if Amanda’s whole strategy is even working. What’s clear is that season two of Amandaland doesn’t exactly give her a makeover. It just…more Amanda. She’s not climbing the social ladder, she’s just getting more skilled at making a fool of herself. And the funny thing is, I don’t even think she sees that happening!
Amandaland airs on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
