Amanda Seyfried confirms “legendary” role in new Netflix movie that you “won’t want to miss”

Amanda Seyfried, known for her role in The Housemaid, will voice Cinderella in an upcoming animated Netflix movie called Steps. The film offers a fresh take on the beloved fairytale.

The film also stars Ali Wong from Beef and Stephanie Hsu from Everything Everywhere All at Once. It promises a fresh look at the classic story of the stepsisters, asking audiences to reconsider whether they truly understand the ‘villains’.

The story follows Lilith Wong, who’s wrongly accused of causing chaos at the Royal Ball by stealing a magic wand. In the process, she accidentally turns her sister, Margot Hsu, into a frog and unintentionally puts the kingdom at the mercy of a cruel princess who is obsessed with princes.

Lilith must join forces with Cinderella and an unexpectedly charming troll to rescue the kingdom, fix the broken world of fairy tales, and show that everyone – even those considered villains – deserves a happy ending.

The upcoming film Steps is directed by John Ripa (known for Raya and the Last Dragon) and Alyce Tzue (Henry), and Amy Poehler from Parks and Recreation is a producer. It’s scheduled to be released in 2026, though the exact date hasn’t been set yet.

We set out to create a Cinderella who felt real – someone with imperfections and ways of dealing with life’s challenges. Amanda instantly grasped what we were aiming for. Her performance is both funny and deeply moving, and she brings a wonderfully human quality to the role. It’s a performance you won’t want to skip!

Ripa praised Seyfried, saying she’s a pleasure to work with and her experience and dedication help everyone involved create a more compelling Cinderella.
