All Palico upgrades and abilities in Monster Hunter Wilds
Enhancing your Palico’s capabilities in Monster Hunter Worlds will significantly boost its assistance throughout each hunt. While they might appear weak at first glance, with the right gear and unlocked advanced support skills, Palicoes can prove to be quite formidable allies.
To boost a Palico’s strength early on in the Wilds, consider equipping it with a weapon that causes paralysis or sleep, such as the Felyne Barina Needle or the Rompopolo Blaster. This will allow your feline companion to gradually apply status effects to the monster, causing it to become immobile or unconscious. It’s even more advantageous if your weapon also inflicts the same status for additional benefits.
In Wilds, Palico upgrades function a bit differently compared to Rise and offer fewer options. To level your Palico up to 15, you can progress through both low rank and high rank quests. However, it’s essential to complete the urgent mission that becomes accessible at HR 40 to increase the Palico level cap to 30. Here’s how to access every Palico upgrade in Wilds:
1. Complete the “A Helping Hand” main story quest (unlocks the ability to craft and upgrade Palico gear).
2. Craft and upgrade your Palico’s armor using materials obtained from breaking monsters or found throughout the map.
3. Complete “The New World” main story quest (unlocks the ability to purchase Palico equipment from merchants).
4. Purchase and equip various weapons, tools, and accessories for your Palico to enhance its abilities.
5. Complete the urgent mission at HR 40 to raise the Palico level cap to 30.
6. Craft and upgrade your Palico’s armor again using materials obtained from breaking high rank monsters or found throughout the map.
7. Continue upgrading your Palico’s equipment as you progress through the game, unlocking new abilities and increasing its overall strength.
How to upgrade your Palico in Monster Hunter Wilds
In the game Wilds, upgrading your Palico works differently compared to Rise. Unlike Rise where you had a pet plaza for recruiting new Palicos, training them, and even breeding them to suit your needs, there isn’t an option to do that in Wilds. Instead, in this game, you only have one Palico and the ability to recruit more is not available.
As your Palico advances in levels, it will obtain improved versions of its skills. To check out these enhancements, navigate to the Info tab in the main menu and examine your Palico’s details. You can also acquire new abilities for your Palico by completing specific quests that become available in high rank.
A different method to enhance your Palico’s power lies in enhancing its skills, such as the Rally skill that stands out when equipped with the Kunafa armor set. This skill significantly boosts both the Palico’s offensive and defensive abilities.
All Palico abilities in Monster Hunter Wilds
As a fellow Monster Hunter enthusiast, I’d love to share some tips on unlocking additional abilities for your Palico! You can acquire these skills by successfully completing various quests. For instance, if you embark on the “Jagras Stinky Secret” quest, your Palico might learn the ‘Trap Master’ skill, becoming more adept at setting traps. Keep exploring new adventures and you’ll discover even more abilities to enhance your furry companion! Happy hunting!
Attract Vigorwasps
The first skill you acquire is from the quest “Healing Aid,” which becomes available as soon as you reach high rank following the defeat of Yian Kut-Ku. Visit your Palico at camp, and they’ll ask you to catch a vigorwasp using your capture net. After catching it, speak to your companion again, and they will unlock the skill for you. In its advanced form, this ability allows your Palico to attract a large vigorwasp that can be used for healing purposes.
Flashfly Cage
After completing the preceding quest, you’ll gain access to the Flash Course mission. Finish this mission and your Palico will acquire the skill to create a trap filled with flashflies. You can use this trap to momentarily stun or disorient monsters by breaking it open.
Rath-from-Above
Your Palico’s next skill mission won’t become available for some time. To unlock it, you’ll have to advance to Hunter Rank 20 and successfully finish the required urgent quest. Once done, engage your Palico, and they will initiate “Rath-from-Above, Go!”. In this optional quest, they demonstrate their new Rath-from-Above skill, allowing them to soar in a hot air balloon while raining down wyvern fire on monsters.
Plunderang
The following Purrfect Plundering adventure becomes accessible immediately after completing the previous one, where you embark on an optional task with the same name to battle a Guardian Ebony Odagaron. While this Palico skill may not be particularly aggressive in terms of attack, it’s incredibly useful for resources. Your feline companion launches a boomerang that snatches a piece of the monster, rewarding you with the material. Given that I’ve actually obtained a gem from the Plunderang in the past, it’s more than worth having.
Vigorwasp Revival
At HR 38, the final skill-granting quest for your Palico is named “A Gusty Move.” This last mission is quite straightforward – capture a colossal vigorwasp. Once completed, you’ll receive the most powerful ability of all. The Vigorwasp Revival does precisely what its name implies; when you fall during a hunt, your Palico will revive you, albeit with a relatively long cool-down period.
