Alison Hammond is starting a new Saturday night show on ITV, which might make it harder for her to become the host of Strictly Come Dancing in the future.
The 51-year-old presenter will host the new game show, Name That Tune, which is adapted from the popular American version.
The show features musicians performing live covers of popular songs, and the studio audience tries to guess what they’re playing.
You know, there’s been a lot of talk over the years about Alison Hammond potentially joining Strictly Come Dancing – she’s always been a popular pick to eventually take over from Tess and Claudia. But honestly, with how busy she is these days, it’s looking less and less likely that she’ll have the time to commit to the show. It’s a shame, but her packed schedule might just mean Strictly isn’t in the cards for her right now.
According to a source at the network, ITV considers Alison a key personality and, while they’re aware she’s open to working with other channels, they’re eager to keep her associated with ITV.
She’s already well-known on ITV for hosting shows like This Morning and For the Love of Dogs, but this new opportunity would likely be her most significant role yet with the network.
They also told The Sun that it’s unclear when the show will be broadcast, but because she was considered to host Strictly Come Dancing, it could end up competing with it for viewers.
Alison shared with TV Zone UK that she’s always been a huge fan of the original show, making her involvement now feel incredibly special and like a dream come true.
I’m really excited to start working with the contestants in the studio and discover who truly understands music.
We’re thrilled to have the incredible Name That Tune band with us! They’ll be playing all the biggest hits with their own energetic and exciting twist, and it’s going to be an amazing show – bigger, louder, and more fun than anything we’ve done before. It’s going to be epic!
Alison has changed her mind about hosting Strictly Come Dancing, saying it would be ‘crazy’ to pass up the chance.
Tess and Claudia, the popular hosts, left the BBC show last year, and everyone’s been wondering who will take their place.
Alison had previously said she was too busy with her current TV work to take on the role.
She told Radio Times that she’s very busy and doesn’t think something will be able to happen, calling it unrealistic.
The presenter explained they would have enjoyed participating, believing the show offers a great opportunity for career advancement. However, they’re very content with their current work and questioned what they would give up to take part in ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
However in another interview, Alison has since clarified her stance on taking over the ballroom.
In an interview with Metro, she enthusiastically said she’d jump at the chance to be on ‘Strictly Come Dancing,’ calling it a no-brainer. She joked that anyone who would refuse the opportunity would be ‘absolutely crazy.’
I was trying to discourage them because people keep mentioning me as a potential contestant on Strictly, and it’s actually hurting my chances of being considered, you know?
Please be quiet so I can come in. I have plenty of time and I’m in great shape, better than ever.
I’m definitely capable of doing Strictly Come Dancing, even with everything else I have going on. People say they’re too busy, but I could absolutely manage it – I want to make that clear.
