What to know:
- Blockchain development platform Alchemy said it has acquired Solana developer DexterLab for an undisclosed sum.
- Alchemy said the acquisition will help consolidate Solana development alongside that of Ethereum to reduce complexity for projects building across multiple networks.
According to reports, the blockchain development platform Alchemy recently purchased DexterLab – a team specializing in Solana development – for an unspecified amount.
Through this acquisition, we aim to speed up the creation of Web3 apps built on the Solana platform, in response to increasing corporate interest, as stated in our email announcement sent out on Friday.
Previously, DexterLab’s technology served as the backbone for both Google’s Solana project and the Solana Foundation’s efforts, positioning itself as a highly sought-after provider of essential infrastructure, as stated in Alchemy’s announcement.
One goal behind Alchemy’s acquisition of DexterLab is to unify the development of Solana and Ethereum, simplifying the process for projects working on various blockchain networks by reducing overall complexity.
Alchemy might be trying to highlight the increasing popularity of Solana as a favored platform for creating blockchain applications.
Though Ethereum holds a significant lead as the largest blockchain with regards to total value locked, Solana takes the lead in certain key areas. For instance, over the past three months, the number of active addresses on Solana has surpassed 210 million, while Ethereum and Ethereum Layer-2 addresses combined are approximately 80 million. Moreover, Solana’s transaction volume has outpaced Ethereum significantly, with 4.75 billion transactions compared to Ethereum’s 1 billion.
