Alan Carr announces he is now a baron and jokes he’s about to enter his ‘turret era’ after buying £3.25million Traitors-style Scottish castle

Alan Carr has revealed he is now a baron after buying a £3.25million castle in Scotland.

The 49-year-old comedian revealed he owns the rights to the title ‘The Barony of Ayton’ and is working on designing his own tartan.

The barony dates back to 1324 and was available to purchase alongside the estate.

Alan was motivated to purchase Ayton Castle after appearing on Celebrity Traitors. He discussed his newfound status with Pete Wicks and Sam Thompson on their podcast, Staying Relevant.

He explained he’s embracing a new phase of life, wanting to focus on personal fulfillment now that he’s turned 50. He feels a sense of urgency and wants to pursue his passions and enjoy life to the fullest, imagining a comfortable and self-contained existence – like living in a castle.

‘I’ve always wanted a castle. I’m a baron. I’m going to get my own tartan’.

Alan dismissed rumors that he’d lost the bid, stating simply, ‘I bought it. I heard someone say another person had, but that’s not true – it’s mine.’

I’m really excited about this project – it’s been a long time since I felt this enthusiastic! I have the survey data, and I’m just waiting to get access to the necessary systems to start working with it.

As many of you know, my relationship with Paul ended in 2022 after thirteen wonderful years. Life moves on, and honestly, I’m keeping an open mind! I was just playfully suggesting I might be open to finding someone new, even… well, maybe even in the afterlife! You never know what life – or beyond – holds, right?

This large property includes 16 bedrooms, 160 acres of beautiful gardens, and even a small railway line.

Alan has ambitious plans for the estate and has already secured a multi-million dollar agreement with Disney+ to create a series following the castle’s transformation into a high-end hotel and spa.

The meeting to share his plans with residents has been delayed because far more people than expected were planning to come.

The event was originally planned for Wednesday, but it had to be canceled because Ayton Bowling Club, the planned location, only holds 120 people.

People who live nearby are worried that the public might lose access to the castle grounds.

In the meantime, residents can share any questions or concerns about the program with the community council.

Alan revealed his intention to purchase a castle last month while on Jonathan Ross’s talk show, where they were both appearing as contestants on ‘The Traitor’.

He jokingly announced he was buying a castle, admitting it was a bit of a midlife crisis. He explained he’d always wanted a turret – a private tower – and felt inspired by the castle featured on the show The Traitors. He decided he wanted his own version and was making it happen.

The comedian shared that he’s been feeling lonely as he approaches his 50th birthday in June. He hopes to turn his castle into a welcoming place for visitors and eventually create a kind of personal zoo filled with animals.

I’m turning fifty this year – though I don’t feel my age – and I’m hoping to find a place of my own. It might sound ambitious, but I’m relocating and really want a place where I can have animals and be part of a friendly community.

I feel quite isolated here. I’d really enjoy having visitors, maybe for a lovely cream tea. I’m dreaming of a place filled with animals – donkeys especially – and a cheerful atmosphere.

The real estate agent asked if I’d like to add Highland cows to the property, and I said yes. I’m also interested in bringing wolves back to the land, and as a landowner, I believe I have the ability to do so.

That sounds good, and it would be beneficial for the environment. I recall reading about that somewhere, so I’ll consider it. I’m picturing something like a classic, large zoo – I really like that idea.

Alan plans to renovate the historic estate and turn it into a comfortable home, and the entire process will be featured in his new Disney+ show.

The new show, currently called ‘Castle Man,’ will be structured like Jeremy Clarkson’s popular BBC home renovation series featuring Amanda Holden. It’s being made by Expectation, the production company behind ‘Clarkson’s Farm’.
