Aimee Lou Wood confirmed as exciting new Saturday Night Live UK hosts are announced

Aimee Lou Wood, known for her roles in The White Lotus and Sex Education, and Nicola Coughlan, famous for Bridgerton, will be hosting upcoming episodes of Saturday Night Live UK.

The British adaptation of the popular American comedy show, Saturday Night Live, launched on Sky One on March 21st. The series is produced by Lorne Michaels, the creator and executive producer of the original U.S. show.

Similar to the American version, the UK show features a new host each week. In the coming weeks, two stars from Netflix will be taking on the hosting duties.

Nicola Coughlan, famous for her role as Penelope Featherington in the popular Netflix series Bridgerton, is returning to Saturday Night Live UK. She previously appeared on the show’s first episode in March, which was hosted by Tina Fey, a former cast member of Saturday Night Live US.

The star of Big Mood will host the show on April 25th, featuring a performance by Foo Fighters. Emma Wood, known for her role as Aimee in Sex Education on Netflix, will host on May 2nd with musical guest MEEK.

The first few weeks of Saturday Night Like UK have been hosted by Jamie Dornan, Riz Ahmed, and Jack Whitehall. So far, Wet Leg, Wolf Alice, Kasabian, and Jorja Smith have performed as musical guests on the show.

So, I’ve been watching SNL UK, and they’ve got a really solid cast now! It’s great seeing Hammed Animashaun, Ayoade Bamgboye, Larry Dean, Celeste Dring, George Fouracres, Annabel Marlow, Al Nash, Jack Shep, and Emma Sidi regularly on the show. Plus, Ania Magliano and Paddy Young are killing it with the Weekend Update – they’re hilarious!

Jonno Johnson is the head writer for the show, and comedian Bella Hull will be the announcer, similar to Darrell Hammond who has announced for Saturday Night Live since 2014.

Early reactions to the UK version have been varied. In a review for The Guardian, the show was praised for its bold attempt to adapt a classic American brand for a British audience, with the reviewer hoping it will continue to improve and find lasting success.

According to the Financial Times, the show’s sketches were generally amusing and frequently original. They also noted that the show surprisingly didn’t seem overly concerned with maintaining a specific brand image.

Saturday Night Live UK broadcasts live on Sky at 10pm and is also available on the NOW streaming service in the UK. US viewers can watch it on Peacock the next day.
