Adaptations of classic novels are becoming popular again. Following the recent release of a film version of Wuthering Heights and with a new Pride & Prejudice series coming to Netflix, another adaptation – this time of Jane Eyre – is now being developed.
Aimee Lou Wood, known for her roles in The White Lotus and Sex Education, is set to star in a new TV series based on Charlotte Brontë’s famous novel. She will play the main character, and the series is being produced by Working Title. Miriam Battye, who worked on Succession, is writing the adaptation for television.
Published in 1847, Jane Eyre is a coming-of-age story that follows orphan Jane Eyre as she grows up in 19th-century England. The novel explores her journey to find love, become independent, and achieve social equality. It’s known for being progressive for its time, tackling complex issues like class differences, sexuality, religion, and women’s rights.
