Ade Edmondson shared that he and his Bergerac colleague, Zoe Wanamaker, agreed not to appear in shows with explicit sexual content.
Sixty-nine-year-old Ade is joining the popular show for its second season. He will play Nigel Morton, who becomes romantically involved with Charlie Hungerford, portrayed by seventy-six-year-old Zoe.
The actor explained their choice to focus on a romantic connection rather than a physical one in the upcoming release, which comes out later this week.
Ade told The Mirror that his favorite part of the show was a brief shot of him and another character in bed. He described it as ‘not much of a scene, really’.
We were uncomfortable with seeing other people our age being affectionate, so we decided to simply hold hands while we slept. We felt good about our choice when the director reacted with a sweet, “Awww.”
Ade, who is married to Jennifer Saunders, also shared that Zoe wouldn’t be upset if he told everyone she’s completely wild and energetic.
I’ve had the pleasure of working with some incredibly talented people. It’s always a great learning experience to collaborate with those who are masters of their skills, and I’ve gained a lot of knowledge from them.
Between 1981 and 1991, the BBC aired Bergerac, a popular detective show starring John Nettles as Jim Bergerac.
Viewers warmed to the show’s sub-plots about his love life and its stunning locations in Jersey.
The show was renewed in 2025, with Damien Molony taking on the role of the detective.
Oh my goodness, Robert Gilbert is back as Barney Crozier! I’m absolutely thrilled! And it’s not just him – Lesley Sharp, Charles Dale, Turlough Convery, Georgina Rich, and Jonathan Aris are all returning too! Seriously, the cast is incredible, it’s a dream team! I can’t wait to see them all together again!
The new series follows Jim as he cautiously begins dating again, supported by his friend Kim (played by Chloe Sweetlove). However, he’s still grappling with the loss of his wife and a sense of emptiness in his life.
Despite his private doubts about finding love, he begins to feel a connection with Nicola [Camilla Beeput], a woman who visits the island.
Just when things seem to be improving for Bergerac, he’s thrown into a new case: the groom at a wedding has been found murdered in his hotel room.
‘Could the victim’s final words hold the key to the killer’s identity?’
The second series of the Bergerac reboot premieres on Thursday on U&Drama.
