A famous actress, known for a particularly memorable movie line, was spotted taking her dog for a walk this weekend.
You probably recognize her as the snooty shop owner in Pretty Woman who famously refuses to serve Julia Roberts’ character, leading to a memorable and iconic scene.
Ward completely changes her look and goes on a huge shopping trip. She then returns to the store to show off her new purchases to the woman who had been rude to her.
‘Big mistake. Big. Huge!’ Ward informs her.
While many know her from Pretty Woman, this actress has had a long and successful career, appearing in shows like Melrose Place and films like Spaceballs, Rock ‘n’ Roll High School, and even projects within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Can you guess who this legend is?
If you guessed Dey Young, you are right!
Julia Roberts has kept acting since her role in Pretty Woman, but she recently enjoyed a relaxing Sunday morning with her dog.
The pair were seen taking a stroll in Los Angeles, both wearing a red jacket, black pants, and matching hats.
Young strolled down the sidewalk, looking peaceful and happy. She was enjoying the fresh air while walking her dog.
The walk may be a rather rare moment of leisure for the otherwise busy actress.
Having worked in front of the camera for many years and with two new projects already underway, Young shows no indication of retiring soon.
She began her acting career in the 1979 film Rock ‘n’ Roll High School, a movie based on the music of The Ramones. Since then, she’s appeared in many popular TV shows and films, including Melrose Place, Spaceballs, This Is Us, CSI, The Mentalist, The Young and the Restless, Murder, She Wrote, The X-Files, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and many others.
No doubt, however, she is best known for playing ‘Snobby Saleswoman‘ in the 1990 film Pretty Woman.
Young portrayed a shopkeeper who initially wouldn’t sell anything to Roberts’ character, Vivian Ward, but later regretted that decision when Vivian returned with a mountain of purchases.
She admitted in a 2021 interview with Today that she didn’t expect the movie to become so popular, nor did she foresee the scene becoming so famous.
‘I really think the reason is that it’s a moment a lot of people can relate to it.’
According to Young, director Garry Marshall encouraged her to be completely honest and direct with Julia Roberts, even when they weren’t filming.
‘He always encouraged me to be meaner and b***hier, even on the set when I was working with Julia.’
But Young said after the film, she found herself becoming typecast.
“It’s just what happens when something becomes really famous,” Young explained. “People always try to define you by that one thing.”
People often ask for the ‘sophisticated salesperson’ type, assuming they’re best suited for the role. This expectation can unintentionally narrow the range of actors considered for the part.
However, Young insists she ‘wouldn’t trade it for anything.’
