Accused season 2, episode 5 recap: What happened to Margot?

Accused season 2, episode 5 recap: What happened to Margot?

As a seasoned gamer who has navigated through countless narrative twists and turns, I must admit that I was initially intrigued by Accused season 2, episode 5. However, much like an old-school RPG where you expect a grand quest but end up slaying a goblin for the umpteenth time, this episode felt like a repetitive side-quest.

In most cases, the one who is accused is quite skillful at making things hard to figure out. However, this particular instance in “Accused” season 2, episode 5, seemed less intriguing as it followed a rather conventional plotline, involving an older woman developing feelings for a younger man, which is a well-worn trope.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for Accused season 2, episode 5.

In my perspective, I’ve been feeling quite disheartened lately. I lost my job and the usual sources of joy seemed to elude me. However, an unexpected turn led me to join a friend’s dance class, where I encountered the instructor – he was undeniably good-looking, yet something about our encounter felt odd from the beginning. It leaves me puzzled that no one seems to notice this immediately.

It’s revealed that the dance instructor is actually a swindler who manipulates older women into giving him their savings and then disappears. However, in this particular instance, an unexpected twist unfolds when he tells Margot that he didn’t take her money, explaining that he values her companionship too much to do something like that. Sure thing!

What did Margot do in Accused season 2, episode 5?

Initially, I believed Margot would uncover the fraud and unwillingly participate. But when she discovered he was a swindler, she challenged him instead. Subsequently, as expected, it turned out that once she learned he had feelings for her, she acted out of character to shield him and provide an opportunity for his escape.

In the end, Margot found herself delaying a shop’s closure to facilitate the escape of a swindler. This act led to her standing trial, and she had no intention of denying her involvement. She acknowledged her guilt and was prepared to face the consequences of her actions.

What happened to Margot in Accused?

Previously on our show, those standing trial were given their sentences and that was the end of it. In the first season, an episode showed us the effects of psychiatric holds, but beyond that, we haven’t delved into life afterwards. However, this was not the case in episode 5 of Accused season 2, where we were given a glimpse into what comes next.

After receiving her sentence, Margot was placed on probation and required to volunteer at a soup kitchen. Given her youth and the fact that she had been deceived, it appears that she received a more lenient punishment.

Connie’s testimony against her friend left the hour feeling dull and uninteresting. What caused this? Did Connie not truly know her friend? The episode showcased an ugly manifestation of jealousy.)

Additionally, what prompted Margot to aid the swindler in his escape? Although he didn’t steal her money, he did take her friends’ savings. This could be the reason behind their confrontation with Margot. They felt deceived by Margot more than the conman. They were foolish for investing in the conman’s schemes without seeking advice from a financial expert first.

I’m quite disappointed, as I’m an avid fan of this show. I appreciate its knack for challenging our perspectives and questioning our biases. Unfortunately, this particular episode fell short for me.

Accused airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on FOX. Catch up the following day on Hulu.
