The Dutch psychological thriller, Sphinx, is now available to watch for free in the UK. At only six episodes long, it’s a perfect choice for a weekend binge.
The show, originally filmed in Dutch, opens with the abduction of a teenage girl named Minke. However, that’s just the beginning. Three years later, Minke comes back home with a strange tattoo and appears to still be affected by her time with the person who took her.
The series Sphinx, which premiered in its home country in 2024, is now streaming in the UK on Channel 4 with subtitles. It’s part of the Walter Presents collection of foreign-language dramas.

Diederik van Rooijen wrote, co-wrote, and directed this six-part mystery drama, which stars Rifka Lodeizen, Marcel Hensema, Sallie Harmsen, Andrea Vass, Ruth Becquart, and Benja Bruijning.
Since it first aired, the series has been well-received by audiences. Currently, it has an average rating of 7.0 out of 10 on IMDb, based on nearly 900 viewer ratings. One viewer gave it 8 out of 10 stars, calling it a fantastic drama with a great cast.
What to Read Next
It’s not a light or simple story, but the complex plot is captivating. The characters feel real and well-developed, making you invested in their struggles and uncertainties, according to reviewers.
Another viewer gave the show a 6 out of 10, feeling that while Sphinx starts as an intriguing mystery in Limburg, it doesn’t quite live up to expectations because it feels overhyped and lacks fresh ideas.
Although the series starts with a promising idea, it often feels unoriginal, relying too much on familiar storylines and clichés. This makes it hard for the show to stand out among so many others like it, they explained.

While Sphinx might entertain mystery lovers, it’s ultimately a fleeting experience. The film’s visuals and music do create an immersive atmosphere, which helps keep viewers engaged for a while.
Walter Presents also features other well-loved foreign-language shows, such as the French mystery series The Eclipse and the Polish crime drama Crusade, all curated by television producer Walter Iuzzolino.
Sphinx is streaming now on Channel 4.
The latest issue of Living Legends, a vibrant 100-page tribute to Harry Styles, is now available! You can purchase it at newsstands or online.
