A soccer kick knockout, Mike Perry's new promotion & Belal Muhammad's good deed

As a long-time gamer and combat sports enthusiast, I’m always eager to dive into the latest news from around the world of martial arts and share my thoughts with you all. In today’s column, I’ll be discussing some intriguing stories that have caught my attention recently.

In this new daily feature, I’ll analyze and share my perspective on the latest combat sports news from around the scene. Drop by every morning for a breakdown of noteworthy or unusual headlines.

A soccer kick highlight to start your day

While attending Black Combat 11 in Busan, South Korea, I was thrilled to discover that soccer-style kicks were allowed (contrary to UFC, Bellator, and PFL rules). The excitement reached its peak when Gi Bum Moon delivered a breathtaking knockout against Young Jun Cho using a powerful soccer kick.

Many soccer fans are advocating for allowing kicks in UFC matches, and I understand their perspective. However, I’m not actively pushing for this change myself. While soccer kicks could add an interesting element to UFC fights, I find them quite harsh and am content with the current rules in place.

Mike Perry is staring his own MMA promotion

On Friday, Mike Perry revealed the establishment of his own fighting league named Dirty Boxing Championship prior to his bout against Jake Paul. This new promotion combines elements of boxing, muay Thai, and Mixed Martial Arts.

Many people are excited about launching combat sports promotions nowadays, and I wholeheartedly support this trend. However, the majority of them don’t make it big in the end, which is the challenging aspect. Perry’s promotion introduces distinct rules, such as allowing fights to go to the ground but prohibiting submissions. I’m intrigued by these regulations, although I’m unsure of their rationale. Regardless, I can’t wait to witness the inaugural event and observe how things unfold.

Belal Muhammad helps bring an orphaned child to America

In an interview, Belal Muhammad shared the story of helping bring a child from Gaza to the United States following the tragic death of their parents. You can listen to him tell it personally in the video above.

Despite the ongoing conflict between Palestine and Israel, it’s incredibly moving to witness such a selfless and extraordinary act. Regardless of personal views on the war, the innocence of children caught in the crossfire is undeniable, and they are suffering greatly. Muhammad has been vocal about ending the hostilities, but his impact is limited. The sight of that little boy’s smile, though, makes it all worthwhile, and I commend Muhammad for going above and beyond to make a difference.
