Netflix has given the green light for a third season of its comedy series, A Man on the Inside. The show stars Ted Danson as private investigator Charles Nieuwendyk and brings together Danson with Mike Schur, the creator of The Good Place.
Ted Danson expressed his enthusiasm for what Charles Nieuwendyk will do next. He shared that he’s been fortunate to collaborate with Mike Schur for the past ten years, continually impressed by Schur’s talent. Danson is deeply grateful to Schur for creating the character he played and giving him the opportunity to bring it to life. He also praised the cast and crew, saying they make filming feel less like work. Finally, he thanked Netflix for their support and for allowing the show to continue.
The show A Man on the Inside is inspired by the documentary film The Mole Agent. The first season follows Charles, a recently widowed retiree, who unexpectedly finds a new purpose when he takes a job as an undercover investigator for a private detective.
Having successfully navigated a previous investigation, Charles is ready for a new challenge. He goes undercover as a professor at Wheeler College to uncover who is attempting to block a large donation from the controversial billionaire, Brad Vinick (Gary Cole). The situation becomes more complex when Charles meets someone with whom he begins to form a connection.
As a fan, I’m so excited about where they’re taking Charles’ character! The creator, Dan Schur, explained they really wanted to push him further in Season 2 – bigger cases, higher stakes, and a more complex investigation style, even if it meant he wasn’t always successful. He said that’s the best part of a show that gets to keep going – each season builds on what came before. Season 1 set everything up, and now Seasons 1 and 2 will be the base for what they do in Season 3. It sounds like they’re really layering the story, and I can’t wait to see where it goes!
Netflix Orders A Man on the Inside Season 3
After its November premiere, Season 2 of the show quickly became popular on Netflix, remaining in the Global Top 10 for five weeks. Ted Danson’s acting was also highly praised, earning him nominations for Golden Globe, Critics Choice, and SAG awards.
The series is highly rated on Rotten Tomatoes, with an overall score of 94%. Both seasons have been certified fresh: the first season earned a 96% rating, and the second received a 92%. Critics describe it as a charming and funny sitcom that proves life can still be vibrant for older people.
Alongside Ted Danson, the cast of A Man on the Inside includes Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Lilah Richcreek Estrada, Stephanie Beatriz, and Stephen McKinley Henderson.
