What to know:
- In an impressive first-day spectacle, BlackRock’s new iShares Staked Ethereum Trust (ETHB) witnessed over $15 million in trading volume from an initial $100 million in assets. It’s like a star being born in the crypto world.
- Unlike your run-of-the-mill crypto ETFs that just sit there like a lazy cat, ETHB stakes up to 95% of its ether, doling out 82% of the rewards to investors like a generous but slightly cautious uncle.
- The fund is charging a modest 0.25% sponsor fee, though they’re offering a “discount” (more like a sweetener) of 0.12% on the first $2.5 billion in assets. It’s almost as if they’re begging for attention.
Well, well, well. BlackRock’s new staked ether (ETH) ETF had quite the debut on Friday, amassing over $15 million in trading volume on day one. Who says Wall Street can’t dabble in crypto yield? It seems that a sprinkle of Ethereum magic was just what the doctor ordered for investors seeking something with more bite than traditional, passive ETFs.
The iShares Staked Ethereum Trust, also known as ETHB (and now you know what that means), kicked off with over $100 million in assets. By the afternoon, it was raking in $11 million, and by the end of the day? A solid $15.5 million in trading volume. Now, that’s what I call a solid first impression.
“Vast majority of the trading is done and we are at $15.5 million in trading volume for the BlackRock staked Ethereum ETF – $ETHB. Very very solid for a day 1 ETF launch.”

Well, it’s official. Numbers like these are considered ‘strong’ by the market experts, who can barely contain their excitement. James Seyffart from Bloomberg even went so far as to call it “a pretty good start for any ETF.” Sure, James, we get it, it’s great. So, let’s all hold hands and agree that this was a fantastic debut.
But let’s get down to the nitty-gritty: this ETF isn’t just tracking crypto like a lazy jogger in a marathon. Oh no, this is a high-performance athlete. ETHB stakes its ethereum (ETH) between 70% and 95%, and the rewards? They’re given back to investors like a polite guest at a dinner party. You get 82% of the staking rewards in monthly payouts, and no, there’s no secret handshake. It’s like having your cake and eating it too.
Of course, 18% of those rewards go elsewhere. Part of that goes to custodians and the staking service providers. No one said running an ETF was cheap, right?
But wait, there’s more! The fund charges a 0.25% sponsor fee, which-hold your applause-has been “generously” discounted to 0.12% for the first $2.5 billion in assets. Now, that’s a deal only BlackRock could offer, and they know it.
ETHB is just the latest jewel in BlackRock’s growing digital assets ETF crown. They already run the iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) and the iShares Ethereum Trust (ETHA), because who needs just one crypto fund when you can have three, right?
Ethereum’s staking system-where you lock up ETH to secure the network in exchange for rewards-is a beautiful thing. But, for those not tech-savvy enough to get their hands dirty on the blockchain, BlackRock is wrapping it up in a nice, neat ETF box. Because why leave things to chance when you can package it up and make it look fancy?
If this trend catches fire, we might see a whole new wave of yield-generating crypto ETFs. Maybe next, we’ll be talking about staking ETFs from every proof-of-stake network. And with that, crypto ETFs could go from passive exposure to income-generating machines. Now that’s a concept even the most conservative investors could get behind.
