Due to potential security threats, will have extra security on Sunday night. This comes after the FBI warned that Iran might be planning an attack in California.
During a press conference on Wednesday, Oscars producers Katy Mullan and Raj Kapoor announced they’re working with the FBI and local police to make sure everyone at the event feels safe. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department also stated they will be closely monitoring the situation in the Middle East as the weekend approaches.
The Conflict With the Middle East Will Be Monitored
Kapoor announced at the press conference that they’re working closely with both the and the LAPD to ensure the event runs smoothly. Their main priority is making sure everyone – attendees, spectators, and even fans watching from outside – feels safe, welcome, and protected. The production team sees it as their responsibility to deliver that experience.
The L.A. County Sheriff’s Department has stated they are on high alert due to current events around the world. They are closely watching the situation in the Middle East with help from federal and local law enforcement, and are working to understand if there are any risks to our communities. Protecting the public is their top concern, and they are prepared for various threats, including lone attackers, hidden groups, and cyberattacks.
Gov. Gavin Newsom Addressed the Concerns
California Governor Gavin Newsom said on X (formerly Twitter) that he’s working with officials to keep an eye out for any potential dangers to the state. While they currently don’t believe there are any immediate threats, they are still prepared. This comes after the FBI warned in late February that Iran might be planning a surprise attack on unspecified locations in California.
According to an FBI alert reported by ABC News, intelligence suggests that Iran may have planned a surprise attack on the U.S. using drones launched from a ship off the California coast. This potential attack was reportedly considered if the U.S. were to attack Iran. However, the FBI currently has no further details about when, how, or who might carry out this alleged attack, or what the specific targets would be.
There are fears of a potential attack by Iran, likely in response to recent airstrikes by the United States and Israel on February 28th. Former President Trump said these strikes aimed to stop Iran from building nuclear weapons. Iran has reportedly retaliated with missile and drone attacks aimed at Israel and countries allied with the U.S. in the region, raising worries that Iran might also attack the United States directly.
