Though Steven Spielberg’s latest Netflix series generated a lot of buzz after its release last week, it hasn’t surpassed one of the platform’s most popular shows. Premiering on March 6th, The Dinosaurs explores the complete history of these prehistoric creatures, from their origins in the Triassic period to their extinction event. Dan Tapster created the series, with Steven Spielberg as executive producer.
While the docuseries The Dinosaurs quickly became popular on Netflix, reaching the top of the charts worldwide and in the US, its viewership didn’t compare to the massive success of Bridgerton. Bridgerton, a period romance that first premiered in 2020, is now in its fourth season, with the second part of the season released on Netflix in late February.
According to Tudum, The Dinosaurs was viewed for 10.4 million times during the week of March 3rd to 8th, totaling 32.3 million hours watched. While those numbers are strong, they pale in comparison to Bridgerton. The latest season of the popular romance series earned 13.1 million views and a massive 116.4 million hours watched during the same week.
‘Bridgerton’ Season 4 Has Yet to Hit a Huge Milestone

Netflix
The fourth season of Bridgerton premiered on January 29th and centers on Benedict’s love story with Sophie Beckett, a woman working as a servant due to her difficult family situation. This season is based on Julia Quinn’s novel, An Offer from a Gentleman. With an 82% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the show remains popular and critically well-received.
Despite the continued success of Bridgerton, Season 4 hasn’t yet broken into Netflix’s list of all-time most popular shows. Currently, Season 1 is the highest-ranking Bridgerton season at number seven, with 929.3 million hours viewed, followed by Season 3 at number nine with 846.5 million hours.
So far, Season 4 has been watched for 683.1 million hours. It still needs to gain a lot of views to reach the top 10 – currently held by Season 1 of The Night Agent with 803.2 million hours. These rankings are based on the first 91 days after a show’s release, so it’s yet to be seen if Bridgerton Season 4 can break into the top 10 before the end of April.
Don’t Sell ‘The Dinosaurs’ Short
Seriously, you need to watch The Dinosaurs on Netflix. It’s much more than a typical nature documentary – it’s a compelling story that will surprisingly make you care about creatures like the Dilophosaurus and its search for a partner. Knowing how things ultimately turn out doesn’t diminish the show’s amazing and unique journey through prehistoric times.
Both audiences and reviewers are loving The Dinosaurs, which has a perfect score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer and a solid 71% audience score. At just over three hours long, it’s a great choice for a weekend watch.
