Key Highlights
- VARA wants you to know that MEXC is not licensed in Dubai. So, if you were hoping for some crypto magic, think again.
- Using unlicensed platforms like MEXC or KuCoin might cost you more than just your investment – like your financial sanity and legal peace of mind.
- Word to the wise: Always check the Public Register before diving into the wild world of virtual assets. VARA says so.
Dubai’s Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA) has just dropped a bombshell for crypto lovers: Stay away from MEXC. Yep, you heard it right. The Estonian-based MEXC, which operates under the more glamorous name “MEXC Global,” is not legally allowed to offer virtual asset services in Dubai. And yet, somehow, they’ve been doing it. Shocking, right?
According to VARA, this little crypto exchange is not licensed to operate in or from Dubai. So, basically, everything they’re doing here is illegal. If you’re thinking about signing up or even looking at their ads, VARA suggests you check their Public Register first. You know, before you risk your hard-earned cash on something that might be more of a dumpster fire than a crypto exchange.
The Dubai Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority has issued an Investor and Marketplace Alert regarding MEXC Estonia OÜ and MEXC Global LTD, commercially advertising as “MEXC”.
The entity does not hold a VARA licence to provide Virtual Asset services in or from Dubai. Any…

In case you thought VARA was kidding, they also explained that MEXC doesn’t even meet the basic requirements of Dubai Law No. 4 of 2022. So, yeah, they’re definitely breaking the law here. VARA’s message is clear: no MEXC, no crypto, no fun.
“Any promotion, advertising, or solicitation related to MEXC has not been approved by VARA. The company is not allowed to offer, promote, or market any Virtual Asset products or services in Dubai or to its residents,” VARA has emphatically stated. No MEXC, no virtual asset fairy tale ending.
On top of that, VARA is putting everyone on high alert: engaging with these unlicensed platforms is basically like playing Russian roulette with your finances and your freedom. So, you might want to double-check that a platform is compliant with local laws before you take the plunge. Just saying.
KuCoin Exchange Faces Similar Warning
If you thought MEXC was the only bad apple in the crypto basket, think again. VARA is also serving up a warning for KuCoin. Yep, the platform that’s as popular as it is sketchy. Authorities are saying that KuCoin, along with its various subsidiaries, might also be offering virtual asset services in Dubai without the proper license. Spoiler alert: That’s also illegal.
And if that’s not enough, let’s talk about their global mess. Austria’s Financial Market Authority (FMA) froze new business for KuCoin EU because they’re apparently not following anti-money laundering and sanctions rules. And in Canada, one trader can’t even get to their $2.8 million CAD on KuCoin. So yeah, things aren’t exactly rosy in KuCoin land.
At the end of the day, VARA is doing its homework and keeping a close eye on these crypto platforms to make sure Dubai residents aren’t getting scammed. So, do yourself a favor: avoid MEXC, avoid KuCoin, and make sure any platform you use is actually playing by the rules. It’s the least you can do for your wallet and your future legal defense.
