The 44-year-old Toxic pop singer joins a long list of celebrities who have suffered the same fate.
It’s disappointing when a celebrity gets a DUI, especially since they could easily afford to hire a driver. It seems reckless to risk driving themselves after having something to drink.
As a long-time observer, I’ve always felt the penalty handed down is incredibly harsh, and it’s not just about the shame this crime brings internationally. It’s the sheer amount of time and resources wasted dealing with it all that really adds to the severity, in my opinion.
Getting a DUI in California carries serious penalties. Immediately after an arrest, your driver’s license will be suspended for at least 30 days, and often longer.
You could also face jail time, a fine of more than $1,000, and required DUI classes.
For a first offense, the usual penalties are three to five years of probation, a six-month driver’s license suspension, and roughly six months of educational classes.
