Okay, so this is a bit of a shocker. Reports are coming in that Britney Spears was arrested last night in Ventura County for suspected drunk driving. I checked the official records from the Sheriff’s Office, and it seems to be confirmed. It’s definitely a developing story, and I’ll be following it closely, but that’s the news as we have it right now.

Britney Spears, 44, was arrested by the California Highway Patrol Wednesday night at approximately 9:30 p.m. and officially booked around 3 a.m. Thursday. Her car was taken into police custody, and she was released shortly after 6 a.m.

The pop star’s occupation was listed as “celebrity.”

Spears has a May 4 hearing date set in Ventura County Superior Court in Ventura.

On Thursday morning, The Times couldn’t get a response from a representative for Britney Spears. She was arrested in Los Angeles County back in 2007, shortly after her divorce from Kevin Federline became final. The charges included minor offenses related to a possible hit-and-run and driving without a valid license.

The prosecution was dropped in October 2008 after a jury split 10-2 in favor of acquittal.
