Pete Davidson’s partner, Elsie Hewitt, has explained her decision not to breastfeed their baby daughter.
The model, 29, and the SNL star, 32, welcomed their daughter, Scottie Rose Hewitt Davidson, in December of last year.
In a personal essay published in Elle on Wednesday, Hewitt openly discussed the internal struggle and guilt she feels about choosing formula to feed her baby.
She also clarified that she still felt it was the right choice for her, explaining that she didn’t believe there was a moral issue with choosing not to breastfeed.
Hewitt shared in an essay that she felt a sense of shame about potentially needing to use formula to feed her baby, even before she became pregnant. She also discussed her experiences with endometriosis.
After a difficult pregnancy, the media personality shared that she carefully considered her mental well-being, her recovery process, and the type of mother she hoped to become.
Hewitt explained that even though formula provides complete nutrition and is safe, there’s still a sense of guilt for those who choose not to breastfeed, and that guilt doesn’t simply disappear.
I often need to remind myself – and sometimes even ask someone to tell me – that taking care of my own mental and emotional well-being is essential to being a good mom. It’s not something separate from motherhood.
The actress admitted she questioned whether the advantages of breastfeeding were worth the challenges, such as the time commitment, feelings of loneliness, and tiredness it can cause.
After their daughter was born, Hewitt worried about becoming her only source of support, which he feared would exhaust him, slow his own recovery, and prevent his partner from sharing in the feeding responsibilities.
She and Davidson ‘both carry’ the role of feeding Scottie instead with formula.
As a lifestyle expert, I often talk about the powerful connection between mothers and their babies, and I recently spoke with someone navigating some complex emotions. She was feeling guilt, but also expressed an incredibly strong bond with her little one. She described it beautifully – that bond was formed through the entire experience of pregnancy, childbirth, and those first precious months of sharing a body, nearly a year of complete closeness. It’s a reminder that even with complicated feelings, that primal connection is incredibly powerful.
‘That bond is sacred and grows through presence, not depletion.’
People close to Hewitt, like Davidson and her mother, supported her choice not to breastfeed.
Despite everything, I still felt guilty and under pressure. It wasn’t an obvious feeling,” she explained. “It often came from talking to other moms, reading articles, or taking parenting classes.
After giving birth to the little one, Hewitt developed mastitis.
The condition occurs when there is ‘swelling and redness’ of the breast tissue, per Mayo Clinic.
Hewitt explained she’d made the decision not to breastfeed and was already feeling bad about it, but her body continued to produce milk. She described feeling a sense of loss for an experience she hadn’t wanted to pursue.
She went on to explain how motherhood is different for everyone.
Each baby, pregnancy, and mother is unique, with different needs and circumstances. For me, formula feeding was the best option.
Their daughter, Scottie, easily adjusted to formula and is a healthy, happy baby who is growing well.
How we choose to feed our babies shouldn’t be judged, and it’s important to remember that a well-fed baby and a mother’s emotional well-being go hand-in-hand. Both are crucial, and we should strive for both to be achieved.
She emphasized that mothers shouldn’t doubt their decisions when it comes to sharing, and that taking care of yourself isn’t selfish – it’s essential. You don’t need to put your own needs aside to show how much you care.
Davidson and Hewitt had their first child on December 12th of last year, as was announced recently.
Hewitt took to Instagram to share the special news as well as uploading pictures of the newborn.
The media personality announced the birth of their daughter, Scottie Rose Hewitt Davidson, on December 12, 2025, calling her their ‘perfect angel girl.’
I’m incredibly proud of this project and feeling overwhelmed with happiness and thankfulness. It’s hard to believe it’s done! – Elsie. A shout-out to the Wu-Tang Clan! – Pete
Hewitt sometimes shares cute photos on her Instagram to give fans glimpses into her life as a parent.
Just recently, the couple suggested they might get married, especially now that they’ve had their first baby.
Last month, Us Weekly asked the former SNL cast member whether he and Hewitt plan to get married or have a large family.
So, when I was asked about following through on everything, I said absolutely! And honestly, we’re really hoping to give Scottie a sibling – it’s definitely something we’re working towards.
We definitely want her to have a friend, and we’re excited about her becoming a big sister,” the actor said.
I’ve definitely been thinking about having another baby. It’s amazing how small they are when they’re born, and then how quickly they grow up – it really is incredible.
