Increasingly, self-adaptive systems operate in complex socio-technical settings demanding ethical considerations beyond pre-defined constraints. This paper, ‘The Runtime Dimension of Ethics in Self-Adaptive Systems’, argues that framing ethical preferences as dynamic, runtime requirements-rather than static rules-is crucial for responsible system behavior. We propose a shift toward explicit ethics-based negotiation to manage inevitable conflicts among stakeholders and evolving contexts.
