For years, Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman have been considered DC Comics’ biggest heroes. There was talk that director James Gunn was searching for actors to play Batman and Wonder Woman in his new Superman movie. However, Gunn recently clarified on Threads that neither Batman nor Wonder Woman will be in his film, titled Man of Tomorrow.
James Gunn was very clear in his response. According to ComicBookMovie.com, he denied rumors about Batman and Wonder Woman casting calls, stating they are completely false when asked if auditions were already happening.

Leaving out Batman and Wonder Woman will probably upset some fans. While many want to see all three heroes – Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman – together on screen, perhaps starting with the upcoming film, others will be glad James Gunn isn’t rushing to create a Justice League like the previous director, Zack Snyder.
James Gunn, who also leads DC Studios, might have additional motivations for leaving out two of DC Comics’ most famous characters in his upcoming film, Man of Tomorrow.
Too Many Batmen?
DC Studios plans to make a new Batman movie called The Brave and the Bold. Andy Muschietti will direct, but he and his producer sister, Barbara Muschietti, weren’t fully committed to the project when asked about it last fall, suggesting its future wasn’t certain.
“The intention is yes, but we can’t talk about it,” Barbara said.

Director Matt Reeves is currently finishing up the casting for The Batman: Part II and plans to release it on October 1, 2027. His Batman films exist in a separate universe from the main DC Universe. Since Man of Tomorrow is coming out just a few months before, James Gunn might want to avoid introducing another version of Batman, even though the two films would likely portray the character in different ways.
It seems very likely Batman won’t appear in Man of Tomorrow, considering the planned release dates for DC films. While the reasoning isn’t as obvious, James Gunn has definitively stated that Wonder Woman also won’t be included in the movie.
Wonder Woman Rumors
On Threads, one user pointed out that the talk about Wonder Woman potentially being in Man of Tomorrow was becoming increasingly difficult to dismiss, with the rumors “getting so loud.”
James Gunn clarified that he is casting a female character for the film, but it’s not Wonder Woman. He suggested that rumors linking the role to Wonder Woman are likely just guesses, explaining that if you make enough predictions, some are bound to be correct eventually. He added that he couldn’t confirm any truths at the moment.

This comment likely referenced a recent claim by entertainment reporter Jeff Sneider. On his podcast, The Hot Mic, Sneider said James Gunn was meeting with actresses about potentially playing Wonder Woman. Gunn and Sneider have disagreed publicly before regarding Sneider’s reporting.
According to Variety, Ana Nogueira, who has written for Supergirl, will be writing a new Wonder Woman movie as part of the DC Universe. Similar to the plans for Batman, Wonder Woman might only be referenced in James Gunn’s Man of Tomorrow before getting her own dedicated film.
For now, all of the major Man of Tomorrow casting announcements seem to have been made.
Scoopers Strike Out
When questioned about remaining roles to fill for Man of Tomorrow, James Gunn highlighted the casting of Lars Eidinger as Brainiac as the most significant update.
He explained that the remaining significant roles will mostly be filled by characters audiences are already familiar with, though they are still casting for a few minor parts.

Considering Gunn’s tendency to publicly support all things DC, including projects he isn’t directly working on—like the new Lego Batman game—it’s hard to believe he’d hide plans to include Batman and Wonder Woman in Man of Tomorrow if he actually intended to. This situation highlights how often rumors spread quickly online, even when fans want to believe them, prioritizing quantity of information over reliable accuracy.
